Nice project. Looks like you got enough broken marbles for a patio. I would have used clear Lexel sealant to glue marbles to saucer.
@stephenbahrmarbles

That sounds like a good option, I’m not sure which one would hold up the longest.I figure I could get 20 more years out of this saucer.

They looked absolutely incredible in their colour formations and patterns! I loved seeing a bit more of a Birdseye view of the marble with and they actually looked a bit like seeds lol God Bless 😎😍✝️🙌

Wow! Thanks for the idea. I do take the half marbles I find in the river home with me.. and "river marbles" always look better when wet! What do the birds think of this? (I know they see color) -Cathy🙂
@stephenbahrmarbles

Thanks Cathy ! They look a lot better underwater! I’ve had a few different species visit it in the first day so I think it will work fine. There was a hummingbird inspecting it a little while ago !

Well, I was really considering this project.. we already "had" the concrete bird bath. Yesterday a wild turkey landed on it, knocking the bowl off the pedestal, breaking two chunks off the bowl! Sigh.. stupid turkey!🦃 (Stupid us.. we feed them too well!)🙄 Anyways, I may still try something similar. BTW, I bought a large box of marbles at a bottle show. I've posted one on my community page, and already there is controversy (over ID). It's gonna be a long trip through this box of marbles! You are welcome to weigh in, (or not). Thanks again for the great birdbath idea! ( No birds over 15 lb please! ) -Cathy😁

Hi Cathy ! Sorry about the Wild Turkey 🦃, they can get pretty heavy for sure. I will check out your bottle show marble finds, maybe I can give you an opinion.

Nice to look at but I worry about the toxins in the glues and paints. Does that stuff become inert as it hardens? Thanks Bruce

Thanks Mary Jo , good question! I would think just like any of the man-made feeders or panted and concrete materials we use for the birds : they will become safe as they dry and cure. The bath has been up and running for a few days it seems to be as safe as anything else I’ve used, but I am not a chemical expert. The birds certainly have been using it.

I just wondered would caulk not have been better than the black goo?
@stephenbahrmarbles
@stephenbahrmarbles Жыл бұрын
Hi Snow , Yes I think silicone caulk might be a very good idea. A few marbles from this bird bath have loosened and popped out , I’m using 2 part epoxy gorilla glue to set them back in . I think the Gorilla Glue might be the best option. But carefully, because it’s messy to work with. Good luck!

Right, you would probably want to make it from a concrete form. I’ve seen good KZbin videos covering that project.
