Sorry for asking on such an old comment but did it make any difference to interior noise at high speeds?

@@RealWheelDrive39 I never did perform the repair, and ended up giving up on E-39s, or old BMWs for that matter. I imagine if the trim is intact and properly installed as it was from the factory, the wind noise would be minimal. Check your sunroof seal too, if equipped. I found a lot of wind noise come from a misaligned panel.

Thanks for the great video which is a big help, as I have to replace these rubber trims on the front and rear screens of my 1999 E39 540i due to age and the hot sun causing the rubber to crack and fall apart. On my car there appears to be right angle corner pieces in the corners that join the top and sides together is this correct ? as I can't tell with everything now cracked badly...

good advice using soapy car wash water! I was thinking wd40 but this is way more practical

Very informative. It seems these trim pieces become brittle after awhile, mine are due to be replaced.

Thank you! Yeah they definitely make the car look dated once they start to fall apart.

How to change the back window ? Is it just taking the seals off ?
@markcrawford31527 жыл бұрын
would like to see a e46 rear window seal done. as mine seems like rear glass will have to come out
@4DIYers7 жыл бұрын
It's the same process, this trim is quite common across most BMW models.
@markcrawford31527 жыл бұрын
it's definitely not going back in without window out

How is the window urethane around the grove it sits in??? Sometimes that can cause problems and may need to be trimmed out slightly.
@markcrawford31527 жыл бұрын
4DIYers sits out to far in places tryed trimming not enough room to get a blade in just going to cut the window out clean and refit with new seal.
@4DIYers7 жыл бұрын
I had one small area on the corner sticking up and I used a flat tip on a soldering iron to melt down the urethane. If there is an excessive amount, then the window must have been replaced at some point.

So my e39 has a like a metal lead thing in the front windshield should i remove it when i go to replace the gasket?
@4DIYers3 жыл бұрын
That would be what's left of the old trim piece. There's metal within that rubber trim, so you'll need to remove it.
@SHocKT0X1C3 жыл бұрын
@@4DIYers would i have to remove the windshield or just take it off and apply?
