I would add a wooden crossbar (wider than the widest part of your boat) to the rear ends of your two wooden rails. Then you simply place the front of the boat on the crossbar, then lift up the rear of the boat and slide the boat forward as usual. That way, your boat won't ever come close to scuffing up your car, and you'll never have to lift the entire weight of your boat again, as the crossbar will always be supporting some of the weight of your boat, then supporting even more weight as you elevate the boat towards horizontal, at which point the crossbar will support half the weight of your boat, making sliding the boat forward onto your roof rack's crossbars that much easier. Much easier to unload as well.
