Hi, everybody! If you're wondering how my table has stood up over time, I created a video about it. You can find it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naDGoKtra8ilia8 I'm sorry that the volume of the video isn't so great, but I'm constantly trying to improve my video editing, so future videos are better, I promise! Also, I'm working on creating another video to show you how to touch up scratches and ding marks, so please subscribe and stayed tuned for that future video. Thank you so much for watching! I hope you've found this video to be helpful to you! :)

Hi does chalk paint ever finish looking completely smooth or is it always streaky looking? Thanks
@kathykarlas9414

1thornley I have not found it to be streaky. Everything I have ever chalk painted I always had to give several coats. I always buy good paint too. I have painted all my life and have found thru the years the saying...You get what you pay for hold true to this type of painting.

This was exactly what I was looking for. Just bought a cabin in the mountains that came with a round oak dining table that I’d like to paint and antique. It’s a true log cabin so hand hewn wood grain is everywhere and thus an oak grain on the table clashed. I’ll be trying this technique. Thank you!

I liked your video. Great choice of colors. I've done a lot of furniture refinishing. Back in the 80's I would strip the furniture & then re-stain and take care of imperfections. I still think it's wise to sand, clean, fill in areas that need filling, etc. I believe you will get a more long lasting professional look for the item...especially if its solid wood.

Just found this video. I was looking for a small writing desk as a decorative piece in my renovated living room. Someone gave an old to me that was old but in good condition. At some point, the top was painted dark brown and the legs were left a dark stain. This may be the perfect solution to bring this back to life without have to strip it first.

You've given the table a whole new look/life! Did you know that you can "wet sand" ASCP (with just a damp rag) BEFORE you wax, and thereby save a step? Then you have no sanding dust to clean up, or need to re-wax the distressed edges. Happy painting!

The wax is what "seals" the chalk paint. Otherwise, due to its chalky texture, it will flake off over time. After you apply the wax, it "cures" or hardens, forming a protective layer over the chalk paint.

I used one quart for the uppers (I had enough paint left to do the top of my dining room table) and a half a quart for the lowers (I had enough paint left to refinish an old Ikea dresser.) Hope that helps!

Oh, that's so wonderful to hear. Thank you for letting me know! I hope you and your daughter have an excellent time together restoring your outdoor table. :) If you can't find AS, you may be able to find Jolie paint, a newer product brand that I believe is an Australian-based company. It's not technically "chalk paint" but it works the same way and I've heard wonderful things. I look forward to hearing how your project turns out. Cheers!

I just bought an end table at Pier 1 and I don’t like the color. It’s a yellowish creme and I need a beige color. Would like to distress it a bit but my question is would I need to put a dark color under the beige color to get the distressed look? Or would the yellowish color look okay coming out as the antiqued color? Seems the color coming through should be darker like yours and others I’ve seen. Thanks so much, loved your video.

I think it will be more durable than the wax. Good luck with your project, I hope it turns out great!😁😁😁

Hi would I be able to use this technique on old radiator covers? Im worried about the paint and the heat
@MissJustinaMarie
@MissJustinaMarie 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Gary! What a good idea to paint your old radiators. I didn't know the answer, so I looked it up on Annie Sloan's website. It specifically says that YES, you can paint radiators! Here is the exact wording followed by a link to the source: Using Chalk Paint® on Fireplaces, Mantelpieces and Radiators Chalk Paint® adheres very well to marble, stone, wood and brick fireplaces with no undercoat required. It can also be used on radiators! Make sure the radiator or fireplace is cold before you start painting in order to prevent the paint from cracking. You can leave the paint unsealed or finish with Clear Chalk Paint® Wax if you wish. Remember to leave the wax to cure for 48 hours before exposing it to heat. Want to know more? Each Annie Sloan Stockist can offer you workshops and practical advice on these and other tips from the Annie Sloan Method. www.anniesloan.com/tips Please let me know how it turns out! Sounds like such a great project.

Hi there, your video is very helpful. If I paint a table that will get lots of use and I want to polyurethane the surface, do I still use the wax? Also, I have purchased water transfer decals for a table, any suggestions for when to apply it?
@MissJustinaMarie
@MissJustinaMarie 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, Cindy! Glad you liked the video. 😁 I wouldn't use both the wax and the polyurethane. What I would do in your situation is to paint the surface using the chalk paint and then apply the decal and then apply the polyurethane. However, you might want to do a test first to make sure that the polyurethane doesn't make the decal bleed. Hope that helps!

Looks great but what's the difference between chalk paint and regular flat paint?
@MissJustinaMarie
@MissJustinaMarie 6 жыл бұрын
CSvids well, you’d need to at least use a primer with regular paint, you might also need to sand. Chalk paint adheres to virtually any surface with no priming or prepping (other than making sure it’s clean.) so that’s a big bonus when using chalk paint. It cuts down the prep time and labor involved. I don’t know the “science” behind it, but it’s pretty remarkable, IMO. You can paint fabric, leather, metal, etc. A very interesting and incredible product!

Loryn Kirby Personally, I would paint the chairs white to match the white of the table. Chalk paint can be applied to laminate (so says the product info) so I don't think that part should be a problem. I painted my kitchen cabinets (and filmed it) The bottom cabinets are wrapped in a laminate/plastic material and I painted right over it with the chalk paint, no problems. The wax will harden so no, it won't rub off onto clothes. If you're concerned about the wax, you can always try a thin, even coat of polyurethane varnish instead. On a side note, I've sat on cushion chairs that were "dyed" with chalk paint and then waxed. They end up feeling like leather and the wax does not transfer at all! Of course on wood, the wax cures, so it will harden, so you shouldn't have problems with the wax coming off into your clothes.

Loryn, thank you! I really do hope this helps. I've loved using chalk paint because it's so much easier than sanding, priming, etc. and you get a very pretty look. I hope your project turns out great! I bet it will be beautiful. 😊💕

I have been trying to refinish a table but with spray paint.. now I kno that I have been doing it all wrong.. i am trying to get a faded light black table top and probably dark gray legs
@MissJustinaMarie
@MissJustinaMarie 5 жыл бұрын
Have you thought about using chalk paint with a dark wax? Dark wax might get you that faded sort of look you want. You could paint the legs a light gray and then go over it with dark wax. For the top...hmmm...maybe a dark gray with dark wax or even a quick coat of gray, then black, then distress it lightly so the gray comes through the black, then seal it. Just some ideas! :) Thank you for watching, and hope you have a great rest of the week!

So Awesome! I am going to be painting our dining table white soon too! It is a table I got from Pottery Barn a few years ago. It has some sort of wood stain-looking veneer on top, that is peeling/scratched off on some areas. Under that, it looks like a pine color, but not smooth. Im not sure what this table is made out of? But should I try to get all of that veneer off before painting it? Or just go right over it? Also, does putting the wax on make it sticky, so that lint and cat hairs will constantly stick to the table? Any advice would be so appreciated :)

I bought white table and would like to "distress" it, would I need to repaint it with chalk paint or is there a way to do it because it is already white?
@MissJustinaMarie
@MissJustinaMarie 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Cherie! Without seeing the table, it’s hard to say. However, if it’s painted white, it sounds like you can distress it and then just wax or polycrylic over it. If there is a white finish like vinyl or something over it, then I would roughly paint the areas you want to distress with a darker color and then paint it white... then distress it so that that dark color comes through and then put sealer on it. I hope what I wrote makes sense! 🤭🤗 Thank you so much for watching and good luck with your project!

great video but I have a question do u add the wax after you have distress it with sand paper or it doesnt matter?
@MissJustinaMarie
@MissJustinaMarie 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Oscar! I've found that it doesn't really matter. What I did was wax it first, then I distressed it, then I went back over the distressed areas with the wax. I believe you can wait to wax the whole thing at once after it's been distressed. Hope that answers your question! :)

Hi I want to revamp my dining table will the wax you used waterproof it? So I can clean it in general everyday use or for accidental spills!

Lorraine Quinn Hi, Lorraine! I clean my table off with a vinegar/water spray and cloth and it comes clean. However, of you have small kids or eat at your table all the time, I would consider doing the top in a polyurethane finish. Hope that helps!

Its not, with wax you have to reapply it from time to time ir you will end up with a more destroyed table from what u started with, use a polycrilic, like 5-7 coats and youll be safe.

Hi, Aadiyan! Well, it says in the instructions that that it takes 24 hours for the wax to cure, or harden, but I distressed this table, as well as other pieces of furniture, right after. I didn't wait and it turned out great! :)

Hi, Michael! Are you wondering if you should distress or not? Absolutely, you can distress after you wax. I would just say to remember to "re-wax" the areas you distress. Good luck!

Hi, Ruth! I’ve found that it is... I’m actually editing a video now that will show you the wear and tear over the course of a year plus...look for it this weekend! You’ll also see the difference between the wax finish on the table and the polyurethane on the kitchen cabinets after a year of use.

I just finished my first chalk paint project, a corner desk. Being so excited to get thru the painting part of it, rushed thru and neglected to do a second coat of paint on the top. My question is can I apply another coat of paint over the top of the wax?

Michelle Breisacher Congratulations on finishing your first chalk paint project! Yes, I believe you can add a coat right over the wax....you'll just need to wax it again. 😃
