I get those tubs for abt $1.50, I put them in the food processor with a can of green beans and cook it up to go with my dogs food. It cooks up like ground beef texture and she loves it! I have done dehydrated chicken breast before, but never thought of livers like this. Thank you :)

Other pet households can used dried food treats. Our blue crown conure parrot loves his little bits and bobs of dried fruits and vegetables I. His food dish. This includes dried sweet potato, berries, apple bits, kale, beet, carrot, etc. these go into his morning food dish so he’s most likely to eat them (when hungry). He’s been a lot healthier since using these to supplement the regular bird food pellets.

I’m new to dehydrating…my friend found a little Presto unit at a thrift store for $12 and gave it to me. The first thing I used it for was to dry some fresh basil. I put it into 2 small jelly jars and added a moisture packet to each. It looks like dried basil leaves, so I think I did it right!? Today I saw your post on dehydrating chicken liver for dog treats. I also use the fresh livers to add to their dog food. They love it like that, so I’m sure they will love it as treats! I just finished loading my trays and turned on the machine. Can hardly wait til the livers finish cookings so I can give some to my dogs! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve been buying frozen pre sliced beef liver and cutting them into smaller pieces then dehydrating them. Sooo much cheaper than the freeze dried liver l used to buy for my doggie. I’ll have to check out the chicken livers next time…l totally forgot those… the chunk size is perfect. 😁
@cherylb.97662 ай бұрын
I imagine the texture is diffrent between freeze dried and dehydrated as well. I'm really curious how you dog like each of them? I'm planning on freeze drying my beef liver and heart and I'm hoping the family pets will like them
@kippertoo2 ай бұрын
@@cherylb.9766 The texture is definitely different. Dehydrated from home, in my opinion, is somewhat “fresher” as seems to contain more of the nutrients, and it has a distinctive crunch than the dryness of freeze dried that l purchased from my local specialty pet store (not box chain). If l could afford a freeze dryer, I’d try it for sure, but my girl loves both varieties. 😄

Thanks for the recipe. 3 to 4 hours of an electric or gas oven is something to be considered. Of course it’s always best to do all we can for our pets, but you have to wait the use of resources, the time, etc. Perhaps the best way to do this economically is to do very large batch instead of just a single baking tray.
@ThePurposefulPantry7 күн бұрын
Or use a dehydrator that is even more economical than an oven.

@JordynOutdoors2 ай бұрын
i just made this but with beef liver. how funny to see you just post a vid. i also dehydrated gizzards. $2ish for a pack of gizzards and $4 for livers. same products would easily be $20+ and full of trash fillers.

I just cut up whole lamb liver into small pieces and freeze for a few hours uncovered on cookie sheet, then ziplock bag them all together and feed frozen
@jennifercline68662 ай бұрын
Thanks, have liver and heart (beef) thawing now to make treats. So much easier to cut partial frozen. Liver I start on parchment paper. Heart(his Favorite) goes in and I keep all the scraps to cook for broth(for over his kibble). Agree, SO much healthier & cheaper homemade. I

@@ThePurposefulPantry Thank you very much for the reply. I also watched your "dehydrating greens" video. Is it possible to dry the greens under a fan (no heat)? Or is it not advised for some reason? You mentioned that your cost in electricity is .75, but in my neck of the woods it's outrageous! I would really appreciate your input on this.

As long as you have good airflow to actually dry, they aren't much different than doing herbs. But I would cut them down and not pile them up.
