Very nice build! Great idea to use the tape on the melamine when sawing too! I used melamine to build my fitted wardrobe too and was my first time using the iron on edge banding, it's still held the test of time a year later of constant use.

Your closet kit looks great, especially the white components with the dark shiplap walls behind them. Also, I see nicely textured bedroom walls. We did that to our 3 brs, walkout basement...well, all areas except kitchen & 2.5 bathrooms...29+ yrs ago.

Ever run the drill in reverse to minimize chipping while drilling the shelf pin holes? Once the bit breaks the surface, you can run tbe drill in forward to complete the bore

Do you have Measurements of all wood used like the cleats?
@raveekris4 жыл бұрын
Very simple and effective project. I'm using this model to build a shoe closet. Question: What material did you use for the cleats?

Great project but I’m interested in what miter saw stand you are using. What is it? How do you like it? I have a small shop and think this type of stand would work for me. 1:49

Nice quick tutorial. How did you get the cam lock screws to fit into the drilled holes? I used the same Kreg jig and same Dakota cam locks and the holes are too big. Used the provided drill bit.
@JohnBuildsIt5 жыл бұрын
Tony R. You may have the different Kreg shelf pin jig, there’s two different sizes. I used the 5mm

Yup, that was it I have 6mm

How has the long shelf that runs across the top of your closet lasted? I have heard people being skeptical of using Melamine when it spans longer than 30". Have you experienced any sagging or issues with this long shelf?
@JohnBuildsIt4 жыл бұрын
Made me go put a level on it to make sure! Haha mine is still perfect. One span is 28” the other is 40”. This melamine that I got is way nicer than that stuff they use for like premade shelves and organizers. Have it just loaded down with a bunch of big boxes of diapers right now haha. I can’t imagine anything heavy that we’d want to put up there that would cause an issue. Thanks for watching!
@kevinvillacis7744 жыл бұрын
@@JohnBuildsIt Awesome to hear! I really like your video and set up. I am thinking of making one of these for my bedroom closet but it will probably be about 30" wide by 84" tall by 18" deep. I am still debating Melamine vs MDF. Though I do like the finish on the Melamine.

Having a tough time getting the hole exactly right for the cam lock. Have a drill press but still off. What aids does anyone know of to get the holes correct and matching?

Or you can be lazy and stack 2 bookshelf cut them to size in height with a shelf made with mdf across the top cut by homepdepot painted to color of choice. 80$ for 2 closet lol

The average DIYer does not have a 25x35 shop. In the beginning of the video the poster states all you need is a circular saw and drill. I don't think so. I would use 160" of 1x2 pine, 72" of 1x3, 27' of 1" x 16", 72" of quarter round molding and 8' black pipe. Tools required; circular saw, hammer, drill, tape measure and two saw horses. 5 shelves on the left which can be precut at HD, a center wall and 2 precut hangar bars on the right. The shelves and hangar bars will never sag. Don't forget a dedicated shop. Do it using only my plans.
@JohnBuildsIt5 жыл бұрын
Extremerecluse Fallows what do you mean? A drill and circular saw are literally the only power tools I used, besides cheap jigs that aren’t necessary, just make things a little easier. Where there’s a will, there’s a way! Thanks for watching
@JohnBuildsIt5 жыл бұрын
Extremerecluse Fallows you should make that video, sounds cool! Sorry I have a shop.. doesn’t mean you need to to make nice stuff.
