Thanks, This info is going to save me $110.00 an hour. You even show us techniqueIts to keep us out of trouble. probably take me a all weekend. But definitely worth the effort. Thanks again. FYI. The coolant thing with the hoses. It does matter. Think of water fall effect if the flow starts at the top. Not the desired effect. Fill from the bottom. The water will fill the hole cooler. Plus the air will purge from the top.

I think your information is slightly wrong. This test does not identify a short circuit, it identifies a grounded circuit.

Good video, just finished mine. I like the template for the bolts. I used the gasket cardboard and poked holes where the bolts go. Worked like a charm.

Great video!! Thanks for posting. When I did mine a few years back I couldn't find much info online and this would have been extremely helpful. When I pulled my cover off the gears and dowels did fall off, after the initial panic I just used the shop manual to get them all back in place with no problem. A can of gasket remover really helps a lot for getting the old gasket off without causing any damage, well worth the few bucks. Also a few dabs of grease on the new gasket really helps to hold it in place. I figured the root cause of my failure was more than likely caused by using the winch when heavily stuck in the mud and leaving the engine idling so as not to kill the battery, just a guess though. I removed the winch from the main battery and installed a secondary battery under the drivers seat with a battery disconnect switch. I just charge it before riding and keep it completely independent of the Rhino's electrical system and so far so good. By the way, I have the identical C.T. meter, it's pretty decent considering the cost. Cheers!

Thank you! Your vid was super helpful! Yes you can remove the stator housing without taking the water pump housing off. I did it and worked fine. As for the electrical connections. Look at the connectors closely, you can take a screw driver, insert it where the plugs join, twist it and connectors pop right off. Thanks again! Gave me a lot more confidence seeing it before I did it. 👍👍😃

If I change the stator on my 2008 Rhino 700, should I change the voltage regulator as well? Thank you for your great video!!! Gave me more confidence to do it myself!
@mrdiyguy1232 жыл бұрын
If you test and prove your stator is faulty, replace the stator. Then reconnect the wires to the rectifier/regulator and start the engine. Quickly test output of the regulator. If you have a fully charged battery , engine running voltage should be between 12.8 to 14.5. If you don't get in that range, suspect a faulty rectifier/regulator.

What is that tapping/clicking noise after your changes stator?? I just did mine now it has a tapping/clicking noise until it gets warm
@mrdiyguy1233 жыл бұрын
If you are suggesting there is a new tapping/clicking noise after changing the stator, that would cause me concern. It sounds like a mild interference issue somewhere. I don't recall any such noise after completing this repair.

Is it possible to change the stator without draining and replacing all the fluids or is it a necessary action for preventing spillage? I'm hopeful its not cuz that sounds like a lot more work than id like to do in my front yard 😅 I'm also certain that my stator is bad after watching this video and following the steps. It was super informative and very easy to follow.
I’m just curious I ordered my stator from Caltric it was under 60 bucks. Which one did you put in when you replaced yours? Did you go with a higher priced one? they sure look the same as the other ones I’ve seen online just wondering your opinion

I don't remember the specific model but I know it was the cheapest on Amazon that had more than 20 decent review. 2 years later and no issues.

I’ve noticed the stator wires in my Rhino are getting pretty hot. Think I’ll check voltages. Might be up for a new stator. 🤷♂️

I also have a 2005 yamaha rhino 660 and I'm having the same issue. There are days when the rhino starts up just fine. then it dont want to start. it has a new battery. when it doesn't start all you hear is a click noise from the relay. is this problem going to be the stator?
@budshoot69514 жыл бұрын
@@JoseRamos-ke2nh Not sure if you figured it out but your problem sounds very similar to the issues I'm having with my Rhino and following the trouble shooting steps he described in this video (found on another blog) I was able to confirm it was the stator. In your case, likely either the stator or the voltage regulator (regulator restrictor I think is the name).

If it is intermittent it might suggest a dirty ground connection at the battery or fram or elsewhere. Start by checking that first. You need to find out if the "click" is occuring with the starter turning because voltage is too low when trying to start. If voltage always stays more than 12v, the stator and rectifier regulator are not the problem. If it goes below 12v when trying to start you could have: bad/dirty battery terminals or ground to chassis/motor, bad starter, bad wiring, faulty starter solenoid. These things all need to be diagnosed one by one.

I think your information is slightly wrong. This test does not identify a short circuit, it identifies a grounded circuit between the stator and common ground. otherwise it is a great test method. If I am wrong, please explain your logic.
