These dovetail humidors were a great way to start using up some of the air dried red oak I had waiting for me! And this project allowed me to share some gratitude with some people who deserve more!

A little tidbit; one of the benefits of a lathe is you can sand and finish while mounted leveraging the spindle giving those knobs some luster... nice project. Thank you

I like how you either chose hardware that would be a match for the router or the router for the hardware on the hinges. I’ve seen some messy square recessed hinges.

You do beautiful work! So happy I discovered another woman to learn from! When people find out I'm a woodworker they are surprised...sigh. Can you please tell me what dremel bit did you use for the lettering? I just got a sander like yours for my birthday...I was always taught to sand with the grain...how do you feel about the difference between yours and a regular palm sander. I noticed you separate your stacked wood...can you please explain why? I've been collecting pallets and old wood to recycle and the ants are ridiculous! I'm trying to come up with a better solution

WHY redoak and not Spainish Cedar for the whole of the humidor ?

She has made a very handsome box I must say but to respond to your question. Only the inside is to be made of Spanish cedar or mahogany and the outside is the builders choice. The cedar and mahogany are good at keeping the right levels of humidity inside the box. She said she used cedar and hopefully she used Spanish because other types of cedar are not suitable for this kind of device.

@@griffinknowles6201 Ah hah! didn't know that a/b the exterior of the box having the ability to be 'a different species of wood' other than Spanish Cedar. I'm in the process of making my humidor, entirely out of Sp. Red Cedar.

Is that Spanish Cedar?

It’s a dried western cedar. for these particular boxes, it was a layer of meaning - marrying the east coast red oak to my western cedar as a thank you to my lumber supply for all the oak. I know Spanish cedar is the standard - but the two actually have more special similarities (as in species) than is often given credit for.
