275 for 30 minutes and Perlers still not flat. Upped temp to 350 and added about another 15 minutes and that worked. Doing a second batch now.

I'm utterly speechless. You schooled me today. I will be doing this instead of buying the liquid stuff or packaged dots. I used to wear pony beads in my hair as a child. Goodness. Simply amazing. Thanks for the video. :)

Okay. I couldn't resist. I had to test this out. :0) I decided to start small and purchased some poney beads from the dollar store. These little gems came out oh, so shiny and gorgeous! Asides from the scent they give while in the oven (I think 8 mins. was enough giving a subtle scent) they came out beautiful! Okay. I'm sold. Hooked and convinced these will look great on my projects! Thanks once again. You rock. :0D

I didn't know there was a search feature. I will check it out, Thank you. I went to Micheals last night and bought a bag of beads and tried it out. I did to batches and need to fool around with the temp. My first batch I could still see the center on some and the second batch all my black melted down to much. any suggestions?
@Lisa68128 жыл бұрын
hmm great idea. I will do that. It took me so long to decide weather to buy colours I liked or the bulk. My daughter suggested the bulk because it had pretty rainbow colours..lol But I can see what you mean about using up certain colours. I have not been scrapbooking for about 3 yrs, I lost my mom 3 yrs ago and lost my mojo But we recently moved my scrapbook room and I have purged TONS and want to start up and possibly do project life, my own way. Scrap my fav moments and add them to the album. Do you suggest any other youtubers I can watch to get back into it.

Thanks for your video Corene. I did the Walmart pony beads (like yours in the video), I did the oven at 425°. Had the windows open but didn't notice any odors. Awesome ty so much for this! Going to a music festival at then end of August and we wanted to deck out our golf cart as we( husband and i) are somewhat of a personality (growing) at the festivals. So I have been making imo the longest fishtail chain made with the rainbow loom to use as garland , and i wanted to make neat ..curtains and hangy things for the cart and our camp site. You have made this venture easy as we have a tub of the shrinky-dinks (perler beads) already and the hot glue gems were a hit and a kiss as I cant afford the fancy more pricey glue sticks. Again ty so much! Spent the last hr sorting out colors... so many little tubes >.< now the oven is preheated...op... preheat..noise...just went off ..And awaaay we go!

I got the pearl pony beads, did 425 for 10 min. - perfect! The perler beads never filled in for me and still had the hole after 40 minutes. Wish I could get some variation in size, will look for the mini pony beads. The pony beads definitely smelled up the kitchen. Was so glad there was no smell with the perler beads, but hate to keep wasting beads/time trying to get it to work. Undecided about them at this point...Thank you for sharing the information with us, Corene. With hubby out of work, anything that lets me continue to craft is a godsend!

I am in the process of trying this procedure. I am using the pony beads and perler beads. The perler beads take a long time to melt, but the pony beads melt in the time you specified. However, they do not melt in an even circle and the hole does not always melt completely. Any suggestions. Yours look perfect. I am giving up on the perler beads.

I have tried Hama Beads (uk equivalent of Perler) and pony beads both at the temperatures you recommend but they do not melt. I tried turning the temp up but it made no difference they melted so far and then stopped. Having spoken with others it seems here in the UK none of us can get it to work.

I don't know if those Perler beads are the same as when I bought some 20 or so years ago. you would put them on this plastic shape that had points, then put some paper over it ( like parchment paper ) and use the iron on it to melt the top part. When you were thru you had a design that you could put a magnet on or make it a coaster etc. I did try the pony beads, one each of the colors my Granddaughter has. Well mine took forever. I had to put my oven on 450 for over 20 min. and still they all did not melt all the way. Maybe its because I live in Colorado. Any suggestions?

Fantastic idea! I'm wondering if you stacked one on top of the other before putting into the oven, whether or not the perler beads would form different sizes? OK thanks bunches, love that you showed the two different kinds! You use so many of these that it's a fab deal for you. Patti
