would be cool to hear some of the thought process and exactly what you're doing and why... but I'm digging your vids!

Looks like you skipped a few steps in this installation. You will need to go back and do it again so we can see all the steps.

I'm curious what type of flashing you used and I was hoping to see how you replaced the rotten wood at the base of the door. Also wondering why you didn't have more explanation to leveling the door.
@TheHandyman16 жыл бұрын
This was way back when I first started making videos. Only getting a few views a month. I replaced the rotten wood with a pieced of pressure treated wood. I think this door came with a pan type thing that goes under the threshold. I keep adjusting the door with ships until the reveal on the inside is the same all the way around.

The sounds and fast forward motion had me in hysterics. Without narration, though, I didn't learn as much as I could have. Oh, and the old door was much nicer!

after you slid the new one in, how did you what did you do to keep it in?

Now this is a nice door , the other doors were out dated it got more of a classic taste all they need to do is put some nice black hard ware... it's gorgeous.

Did you trim the threshold flush to the framing or was it purchased this way? I’m getting some over hang on my install about 1” and can’t figure out how to approach this, I’m on a slab foundation which ends flush to the stucco.

+Jose Romo trimmed and notched to fit

Looks like the first time you tried to dry fit the new door it didn't fit at the top. Did you remove the exterior molding and rip it down? How did you get the door to go in? And Did you just skip the step of putting new insulation in the gaps around the perimeter of the door jamb? And does Home Depot make a prehung door that fits appropriately in a block wall? I would assume it has to have a deeper door jamb, yes?
@TheHandyman16 жыл бұрын
They make jam extensions for homes with thicker walls. I think I used the insulation that was around the old door. Spray foam also works for filing the gaps around the door before putting the trim back on.

Always carry the door keys in your pocket i thought you just locked yourself out.Just wondering why you didnt use any expanding foam.Also if you take the door out of frame its alot easier to fit. I enjoy your work.

Did you put down silicon before installing the door?
@TheHandyman17 жыл бұрын
I usually do 3 beads of window and door sealant under the threshold.

I gotta wonder what was wrong with the old door, it looked pretty sweet
@TheHandyman17 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I just went back and watched it and the original door looked pretty good. I think some of the plastic trim around the oval window on the outside had started to crack and peal away from the door. It still worked fine.
@jethal7 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, where are you located? I can do some home repairs myself, but there are some things I just wont touch (like plumbing or structural)
@spacewolfjr6 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if it was security? With a big glass oval like in the old door a wolf could just punch it out and eat all your bacon.
Dude you need to use some sort of protection on that hardwood flooring.

Uhh... more like “ DIY Front door removal, dry-fit, and caulking video”.... That’s all you showed...👎 Why?..🤔 You didn’t show any subfloor and skirt board repair... You didn’t show any opening prep... You didn’t show ANY of the actual door jamb installation at all!.. You didn’t show any trim work at all, inside or out... I take back the first part.. you shouldn’t call this video anything, you should just remove this video, do a proper front door replacement, record that whole process, then upload that video in this one’s place..
