Brilliant. First one I've seen that's actually doable.

Thanks- I tried several other systems out before this only to be frustrated with the lack of "ease of use" and wasted space.

Looks like it will solve some of my storage problems. Maybe you have a solution for storing so many disimilar screws/washers/bolts/ etc. I always have difficulty finding screws suitable for an impact wrench for wood. What were you using?
@SawHorseDesignBuild

I used decking screws for this assembly. To organize fasteners I used something like these since they stack and I can take to a job site as needed: homedepot.sjv.io/rna5m3

Great video - thanks for sharing. I've been planning on building a rack to organize my garden tools more efficiently for a few years and your video gave me the inspiration to finally get it done. Could you tell me how you cut the notches in the other side of the board since you didn't show this in your video ? Did you use your jig saw also ? I'm going to use 2X6's rather than 2X4's as you did to give me a bit more room for the tools. A few other plans I've seen for this type of rack use 2X6's. Though the crosspieces could easily be 2X4's.
@SawHorseDesignBuild

I used to a jigsaw for all of the cuts since I was creating this video for DIY platform and was trying to keep it simple. You can use 2 x 6 lumber if you prefer. I used the 2 x 4 since space was limited and did not want for the system to protrude into the room. If you used 2 x 6's then you can make some of the cuts deep and others shallow so the heads of the tools do not interfere with each other. I could alternate every other one and cuts the notches slower than I did in this design.

@@SawHorseDesignBuild Thanks very much for the quick response :-). Thanks for the info about using the jigsaw for all of the cuts since that's (currently) the only cutting took I have. I looked at the size of the 2X4's at Home Depot and to me, it didn't seem like I had that much room for the slots but if it worked for you, that's all that matters in your case.
@SawHorseDesignBuild
@SawHorseDesignBuild 4 жыл бұрын
@@wdedula You have plenty of room with a 2 x 4- the slots just have to be large enough to accommodate the diameter of the handle of the tool which is not that large.

measured the shovel handle:1-1/2"; decide the notch will be 1-5/8"; then added 1-3/4" to scribe lines; then drilled hole with bit of size? 1-5/8" or 1-3/4"
@SawHorseDesignBuild
@SawHorseDesignBuild 4 жыл бұрын
Either size work- depends on the tools you have available. I had a 1- 5/8 bit so I used that.
@georgeadneyga

@@SawHorseDesignBuild Right. So why was the measurement you marked on the board 1-3/4? That's what's confusing me..
@SawHorseDesignBuild
@SawHorseDesignBuild 3 жыл бұрын
@@georgeadneyga If you measure the distance between them when you mark the lines at an angle from the edge the measurement is closer to 1 5/8"

Not keen on this idea, prefer the vertical orientation to lift tools on/off, nicely made though

garden tools are low priority for me. I just want them all mashed into a tiny area as possible where I can still get to them. can't have gardening tools taking up all the real estate lol
@SawHorseDesignBuild
@SawHorseDesignBuild 2 жыл бұрын
I agree- that is why I went vertical with the design. Before all of these tools took up more floor space than this design.
@MAGAMAN
@MAGAMAN 2 жыл бұрын
Could have just stuck some nails in a 2x4 and been done much quicker and hang the tools the way they want to hang. Instead you spent a bunch of time trying to hang the tools sideways and then still ended up putting nails into it to hang your tools from.
@SawHorseDesignBuild
@SawHorseDesignBuild 2 жыл бұрын
True, there are lots of ways to hold tools. I chose to cut slots and use nails as you stated, depending on the type of tool. The slots work well for the tool where the center of gravity is close to the head so it holds it better when the handle lifts.

Good eye- these were brought to my house AFTER the video was created. The ones on the wall are my home DIY tools. The ones in the bucket were extra from a project at my office and need to find a new home. There are lots of duplicate tools that I'll take back to my office later.
