Thanks for doing a tutorial on this. One thing I might mention, since I'm making these myself right now, is that if you can put the high-number side up for the shell molds, it makes getting the pretty side to be the high number a lot easier. Sadly, I'm realizing this a little late in the process, and I probably need to make some new silicone molds.

Oh man, I'm learning things from your videos that I definitely won't take for... granite. :D In all seriousness though, these are freaking beautiful. I love the color purple and amethyst is my birth stone, so I'm all about these! I found these cool looking geodes online that are teal crystal with gold and white through the outer edges. I feel like something like that could make for some really neat geode dice. I'd just have to make sure I use additives that compliment them rather than take away - this is definitely something I'll need more practice at.

I've actually been doing this by building up layers of UV in a blank mold instead of drilling it out, and it's one of my favorite kinds to make too

I'm new to the resin world, I've been crafting for a little over 2 months and making dice is the 1st project that's on my ever growing project list. These dice would be awesome to make! Those dice are amazingly gorgeous! I think if I tried it I would maybe do some type of opal dice cuz theres so many colors and different types of opals you could do from black to fire to standard opals. But this idea is so creative and amazing! I'm so glad you did it!

Great video bro. Was always wanting to try something like this. You seem to make videos for things as soon as I get interested in them. Nice! 😁Also a can of compressed air may not be a bad idea to get the dust out of the blank so you can see it better too. Also wonder if adding little tiny clear and colored craft rocks could add a real look to it? Personally I've always liked the amethyst geode since my favorite color is purple!

Awesome and informative video. Now I have another style of dice to add to my ever growing list of complicated styles to try. I wonder if using crushed craft glass instead of (or even in addition to) mylar would give a more realistic 3d effect or if that effect would just get lost in the second casting🤔

Those are so beautiful. I’ve been meaning to make some myself for a while with some multi chrome pigment, but my backlog of ideas is longer than the time I have available for dice making. With the carved out blanks though, I could see it being a bit trickier to try to make sure air bubbles weren’t trapped inside when castling the shells, particularly if you wanted the higher number face to be the pretty one the the inside of the geode visible.

I added a little resin to the inside of the blank before inserting to make sure air didn't get trapped.

I would have liked to see what the pink ones looked like though, since it looked like you made two batches? or are they the same and I was just completely fooled by the effect? If I could make some like these, I would try an emerald set! I think they'd look amazing (although I don't think they actually exist as a geode). Thanks for the video!

Any tips for putting the geode insert safely into the shell? I have only done one set so far and used an older mold so I wouldn't accidentally scratch up the mold when putting the geode in...those edges be sharp! (I did put some resin around the sharp edges before inserting - wondering if it's just practice?)

The dice you were painting in the video arnt the same ones as the sidecast at the end right? What different colours were you using there?

Do the molds work with uv resin? Like making really thin layers and putting the mold into a uv chamber. I just got my geode inserts and I wanna make alabone pearl style inserts. I have an idea of how I want to do it, but I think for the most control it would have to be with uv resin.

Do you have to do this method with blanks? Could you just grind down a regular die and put it back in its mold and fill the space with resin?

You definitely can. You could run into the issues of overcasting where the excess resin will squeeze around the numbers. And so you'll get a little bit of ghosting. But if you're casting just clear to seal in the geode portion, I don't think it would be too big of an issue. The only other downside I could see is the struggle bus to get the dice back into the mold without scraping the dice faces since there's no wiggle room.

Are your dice a more standard size or the larger style? And when you use your blanks, what is the size difference between the blank and the original mold. Definitely want to experiment with all these technics but haven’t pulled the trigger on masters yet.

Our dice are about 5-10% bigger then chessex due to being sharp edge. The blanks are just shy of 10% undersized to fit just snug with a bit of wiggle for the numbers to not get smooshed!
