DIY Gesso Reviews. This is an update and review on all of my Homemade Gesso recipes.

There are warnings on chlorine too but we still use it. Sometimes I think these people forget that some of these warnings stem from extreme use and not ordinary use.

I am planning on using the cornstarch gesso for "priming" glass bottles for texture before painting them. This would not be a decorative painted project but just a basic textured piece. Wish me luck. Thanks for the videos.

try a homemade beer supply store. of course not likely in a remote area. worth stocking up on when in a major center. around $10 per kilo. for your diy gesso.

Can i use cornstarch in clear gesso or i have to use calcium carbonate?

Ima poe ahhhteese and paintin on carboard and poster paper. Now I been makin starch clear,? Cheap as 3 $ a quart. Hell I ordered black handyart 32 oz. I think it was 17$. But the homemade makes a good texture when you cross grain each coat. I kinda smooth out with 1500 grit between coats. But it leaves a zip texture like canvas so yes this works real good. The baby powder at the dollar store is corn starch.

If you try the baby powder one, you quickly come to highly dislike the fragrance they use -- it's overpowering. I'll need to throw out papers I put it on, or my supplles wiill gag me forever LOL Glad you compared bc I'm looking at a bunch of recipes. Ever tried baking powder? It rises & thickens - may be good for texture. Hope the chemical reaction isn't it toxic LOL

Funny thing is, I live in the Twin Cities Metro Area of Minnesota and I have been asked if I'm Canadian with my accent. It's not even a heavy one, you can just hear it in the O's and A's! LOL

@@robynalice879 LOL! If you have ever seen the movie "Fargo", I'm not that bad. My mom is from the Brainerd Lakes Area, where Fargo is set (yeah, I don't get it either) and people there don't have that strong of an accent either!

@@alyssaotter9954 Oh my lanta, I would have never known unless you had told me- that's actually fascinating! 😲 They definitely intensified the accent for the film for their movie's sake, which definitely makes me want to stick up for y'all Minnesotans when it comes to comparing accents. Alberta is where Fargo's Actors sounded like they came from, to me😂

Or board. Seems crazy to prime paper. No one would use it for oil, and acrylic just paint on the paper. No need to prime or smooth that.

Priming paper with gesso helps paint to flow & not absorb to paper. It will help you use less paint.

If you are doing mixed media work on paper or even painting more than a tiny bit of acrylic paint on paper, you definitely want to use gesso. The paper can not handle all of that medium and it will just disintegrate the paper. I mean, I’ve been doing this for years so there is a reason why I say to use gesso.

Sorry none of these are acceptable for fine art pieces,they are not archival,for craft projects only,do you research.

Well ya!!! I never said they were! These are clearly just mixed media type exercises that are shown just for the purposes of this video. Where in the world did you get this idea I thought these were fine art pieces???! SHEESH 🙄. I’m not an idiot. And be quiet with your “do your research” when you can’t even listen to the video. I clearly say I would not use these for fine art pieces. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Maybe more listening and less commenting hmmm?
