When I burn the clear, I put reducer in the clear. So the clear on the edges melts in and I like to sand it with 1500 grit sand paper. Buff the panel, for a better result. I mask the bumper does not matter how small the spot job is.

Did you need to use UPOL blend spray when you did the repair?
@VegasRT50011 ай бұрын
Hey I used that UPOL blend #9 on the sail panel of my 1970 Charger RT as I did some body repair and then blend job on the upper sail panel of the car. I used some of this video as inspiration and partial guide when completing my repair. I had never done a blend job before but It worked out really nice! Thanks!

I’ve used the Spray Max Glamour 2K clear in a pinch a few times. You can swipe nozzles off of lots of other spray cans and see what works for a different spray pattern. I’ve found some narrow “bird shot”, and I’ve found the wide “shotgun spray” and that is key. But that Spray Max has serious longevity. I did my drivers side quarter panel, and it has withstood the gas spill test, sunshine test, the lot. Passes with flying colors. And it is hard. Not an easy scratch. The only problem is that while it last out glossy as can be and you can watch it melt into the previous stoke or coat, when it dries it’s gonna have some orange peel. Just spray several coats. I keep one of those infrared heaters about two feet away from the panel just as it’s finishing flashing off. Also a key factor. It also helps reduce orange peel. But it cuts out fine. For what it is, it’s incredible. You just can’t really prevent the orange peel.

Great video Chris!. Thanks. Question regarding the settings. What is general rule of adjusting these small touchup guns? What pressure should we keep for base and clear ? 20-30 or 10-15 ? How much fluid ? 1-2 turns out ? What typical distance -? Thanks 😊
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
Seriously I realy couldn't tell you. I go by the sound and I apologize I should have put it in the video. I will say for this touch up as low as you can get the psi and still get good paint atomization. I'll revisit this in another video. Appreciate your question.

Could you do this to cover a thin spot in a single stage paint job. The spot is about 2 inches x 1/2 inch.
@GarageNoise28 күн бұрын
Could be tricky if it's metallic. Buffing distorts metallics. A solid color may be possible.

With plastic bumpers you should be using an adhesion promoter so the paint doesn't peel.

What makes Finish 1 710 and 720. 710 being spot panel and 720 overall different? Can you use them interchangeably?
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
From my experience the overall is a bit slower drying which makes sense since it's for an overall paint job. I wouldn't use them together unless you speak with a SW paint rep they my have more detailed information.

I painted a guitar with 2k acrylic, and then 2k clear. I sanded through the clear on the very edge, 90 degree edge, just into the color base. I did this before polishing with a 1200 grit paper. I'm curious how I can apply your method to avoid having to sand and respray the entire guitar. Is there a reason I shouldn't tape off anything beyond 1in of the small edge sand through? I was thinking I can spray more clear and then the UPOL blender and follow the rest of your guidance from this vid. Is it critical to spray more color or can I get away with just clear and blender?
@GarageNoise5 ай бұрын
If it was me, I would sand it all down with 600. Blow a little color on it and then re clear the entire guitar, but if you wanted to just spot in that area you wanna wet sand with 1500 around the area where you'll apply the clear coat, blow in a little color on that burn through and then Blend and the clear like I did in the video. Then you gotta wash it in with a little reducer then you need to wet sand lightly and buff it out, but being that a guitar is not very big. I would just reclear the whole thing, it's gonna make it a lot easier.

Good video Chris. I might be answering my own question here. I have an 29 year old Toy Truck and the paint/clear has deteriorated on the roof and hood. I want to paint both panels for now to clean up the truck. On the roof the paint is rough in a 12" patch but ok going down the sides. It seems I can use this blend technique with 2000 grit then polish with the existing paint that is in decent shape. Is this correct? Thanks
@GarageNoise Жыл бұрын
I really think on a roof you'd be better off paint and blending the spot but clearing the roof completely. It wouldn't make sense to blend like this. I not really that much more work or materials and then it would last and look better than a blend.
@Danno74Z Жыл бұрын
@@GarageNoise Thank you for the advise!! Have a nice weekend.
@jaediccacairns47544 ай бұрын
In preparing to blend clearcoat, 2000 grit is too fine and 800 grit too rough, a 1000 or1200 grit scotch grey pad or some 3M buff paste would make the blend invisible if done correctly.
