Thanks for doing yours first! Just got the eight inch hatch for my Hobie Compass. It's got a space up front for the hatch, ready to go. I also like these rivets, I have installed my maps pockets and some pad eyes with them and I'm impressed with how solid they are.😎

Good luck with your install. It’s actually quite easy. I think anytime I am going to add something to my yak I will use the rivets if possible.

@@yakyappers I must admit I really like using the rivet gun with these tri-fold rubber coated rivets. I'm taking it to Arizona with me next fall and trick out my kayak buddy's yak also.

Can we assume that is a 6" hatch?
@yakyappers

Well the Amazon link in the description says 6.8” . Why it’s a 6.8 vs 7 or 6 I have no idea.

@@yakyappers The claimed dimension should be the diameter of the hole that's cut. For instance, my 6" hatches on another yak have a lip diameter right around 8", but it's a 6" hatch. It's the size of the hole that counts At least, that's the way it *should* work, and does with most mfgs. I ask because I have one (the yak) on the way, and forgot to measure the diameter of the laid out recessed spots for what they say should be a 5" hatch. A 5" hatch *should* fully fit in the recess. My use will be strictly for access for laying in wiring to power up the kayak (no bag). I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'll let you know what I find out when I get my dirty hands on everything Dec 21. Thanks for the quick response!

@@BarryP nice! I hope you enjoy the yak. Yes I believe that it is 6.8” diameter for the actual hole that is made in the yak and the total outside flange is at 8”. A 5” hatch is what all the pre determined spaces are set up for and will fit perfectly in the space provided. I used the 5” hatch for access right in front of the seat but that is in another video. However as you can see, you can use a larger diameter hatch also. The flange may not fit exactly as intended but it does work and I have had no problems at will with it yet. I want to say I was searching for a 6.5” hatch when I found this one. I wanted a larger hole because I wanted to put my battery box inside. However my box still would not fit through this one. I ended up mounting it on the outside under the net, but that is in another video as well. Thanks for watching. And yes please let me know what you come up with.

@@yakyappers My next-door-neighbor Gary and I took a bit of a trip to a distant Dick's yesterday to see one of the last Outlaw yaks that they have in our mid-Atlantic region (they only ever sold the "Dapper" colorway). I managed to find online what I think is one of the last "Sunset" colorway elsewhere while sitting in the very comfortable seat in the middle of a Dick's aisle. I completely forgot to measure the recessed area, but think I found the 5" non-white (greyish, so it fits the colorway) that the lip will fit into the space for $13/ea. I've ordered three. The only other option seems to be a Harmony product that has a bag, but they run $40 a pop! I don't need the bags. As stated, this is strictly for wiring access. The yak has more storage than I'll ever need... and I store everything in true dry bags on a 9.5" yak, as it is (tackle, line, phone, keys licenses)... and all those bags will easily fit under the seat of the Outlaw. I also put together a little trolling package that uses a Wilderness transom and a cool motor that's specifically designed for yaks from Newport Vessels. There will be a measure of fabrication in the build (backing plates for the transom), but this is a light yak, so everything should be fine, and I tend to over-build. I'll be documenting the mods and throwing them on my channel shortly after the yak arrives. I have a delivery appointment set for Dec 21, but have a busy snowboarding schedule before and after Christmas. Gary and I will start working on it in early Jan. We will experiment with mine, and make his "Dapper" colorway Outlaw freaking perfect. Thanks for your input! I truly appreciate it! I'll be sure to update you as things progress!

getting mine in a week or so, was the a specific reason you went with the bigger size? will this size work for the other two compartments?
@yakyappers
@yakyappers 3 жыл бұрын
I went with the bigger size because I wanted to put my battery box for my fish finder inside the hull. But the battery box was still a bit to big so I mounted it in the front tank well instead. You can use this larger one for the other two locations but the flange may have a bit of an overhang. Check the overall outside diameter of the flange and see where it lands on the yak.
