Best asking about it to the manufacturer or reading the packaging, many are flammable and have the flammable sticker but many are water based and I would imagine would be the best bet, it’s something I do w ant to look into more and experiment with, thanks

Would it be possible to embed a thin mesh or cloth between very thin air-dried clay pieces to make jewelry (like earrings) that was not so heavy as the 1/4 inch thickness required for strength?

Thank you, the clay comes clean off my tiles but if in doubt move it a bit, you could always put on a piece of flat cloth and it will come off, I normally do turn over part way through drying though and make sure that it’s not curling up 😊 best of luck

I know this may be a ridiculous question but after the airdry clay is completely dry, when it gets wet, does it melt or get mushy? (when I don't seal it..)

Not a silly question 😊 If not sealed air dry clay would absorb any moisture. If you place in a bowl of water it would eventually go fully soft again, hope this helps

For coasters, you want to make sure they have a few good layers of top coat. A varnish or craft lacquer that is waterproof kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2Koh4COe7Kai7M. I suppose the heat could effect them over time, but would think it would take quite a lot to harm them.

The larger one is part of a pipe, the others are plastic cookie cutters, but you can use things like fabric conditioner bottle lids, or simply cut around and object to get a shape ❤️

A little secret I learned doing stoneware clay is , when you it the Saran Wrap and cardboard tube inside the clay , pull out the cardboard first then the Saran Wrap.

Hi and welcome, yes air dry clay is a fab craft that is exactly that, air dry, so no kiln or oven needed. You can’t use it in the same way as pottery that is fired in a kiln though as air dry clay is not food safe. So many fun projects can be made with it though, many in my channel and many more to come, thank you 😊

Make sure you don’t let it burn low and you never leave a candle unattended, there is a lady that makes candle holders with air dry clay on here, terracotta people, take a look, but I wouldn’t want the flame to be near the clay or the lacquer

I rly love ur video!! I’m trying to actually make a covered box using Das air dry and putting the candle inside. May I know if Air dry clay can burn since the heat of the flame is directly below the clay ceiling? And whether it’s toxic of not when burnt? Like will there be toxic fumes coming out?

No you can not let a flame near the clay, it’s paper based, the candle holder here is for decorative purposes and never leave a flame unattended

I wouldn’t recommend it without HUGE amounts of research but there are some air drying clays that are clay based rather than paper based. It’s possible this could be safer but I’m VERY unsure and would definitely recommend extensive research

you will need to seal with a top coat and then they can be wiped clean with a damp cloth then 😀

Wouldn't the sweat from the glass cause the clay to reactivate the coaster?

I sprayed them with lacquer to keep the pepper in place and protect the clay, if you leave this step out then yes the clay will go soft and ruin your project

Just make sure you give a few thin coats to make sure they are fully sealed, if not lacquer a varnish etc, I used polyurethane in my waterproof video ❤️

Turn to dry regularly if this is happening, dry slow with no excess heat and then a wood plank or similar can also be placed on towards the end of drying, thanks, hope this helps

Once sprayed with a few coats of lacquer you could sponge clean them if needed, if you left them bare you would not want to get anything on them, any liquid would soak in, I did enough spray to set the pepper 😊

Here in the uk 🇬🇧 3 days, plenty of people say less but climate makes a huge difference and depends on thickness, you can tell it’s dry when I is fully white

keep it out in the air and knead it together a bit, soon becomes perfect to use
