This was fun! Creative people came up with all these things WAY before companies marketed and sold them. Yes, please experiment. It is how we all learn. :)

U crack me up. So real n natural in your videos. I have been taking photos since a child n I’m 78. So forever……..! Of course each one brings back a wonderful memory. And I want to do things with them for my children, grand & great grandchildren to remind then of the wonderful loving happy things we did through the decades. You are an inspiration. And you make things as easy as you can. I don’t have - NEVER DID - have patients for piddling with things. Thanks

Actually, if you let it dry over night, I'm sure the transfers will be much better. That's because of how different grades of paper are made and the way the ink lays on the paper. Laser toner sits on top, which is why it's always been easy to transfer. Ink jet absorbs into the first one or two layers of paper pulp. Take the backing off too soon, and your color layer will pull up. Let it dry overnight and the medium will absorb into those first couple of layers and when they dry, they encapsulate the color. This means, that once it's totally dry, the acrylic layer will not let go of the ink, so you can be more aggressive in the backing removal without removing your ink. What happens when you lose ink is that the paper was too wet and the ink layers have not bonded to the medium, and thus, will come off.

I think it depends on what you expect the result to be like, but I would also definitely try the plaster of paris again, wait for it to dry longer and try soap water to rub it off. Thanks for trying this out for us!

Hi Nitsa, I watched this while having breakfast. It's raining hard where I live, with a depressing dark grey sky. Your video cheered me up, as they always do. Yes please. any transfer from inkjet would be nice. I have to say that I tried a few techniques where you rub the paper off, leaving the image some 20 years ago. I really didn't like it, finding it messy and tedious. I abandoned them. I just wish I could make the gel plate work with inkjet prints.

Hi Nitsa as usual a fantastic video. Can u do more like this. Can u make all different recipes for homemade gesso and give your opinion which gesso is the best. Are homemade gesso as good as store bought ? Also which is better laser or inkjet photocopies for photo transfer ? Thank you once again love Shabana
@NitsaCreativeStudio2 жыл бұрын
I think the plaster-of-paris recipe is the winner and probably better than store bought gesso because you can make it any consistency you want plus its cheaper. I prefer laser for photo transfer since its more archival. So if you want your artwork to last, inkjet is not a great solution. Thank you Shabana 🥰

Yes, school glue is PVA.
@juliesharp99812 жыл бұрын
I wonder whether the cornstarch recipe would work if you added a lot more white glue. 1 part when you had 3 parts of cornstarch and 3 parts baking powder just seems too little.

Did you ever try to remove the paper with soap water? If you use black and white images, do you prepair the print in some way...higher contrast or so? I am excited to try, I am going to do an art project...an I would love to use pictures do create a backround...but I am not sure which method I should probably choose. So this is a good way to start experementing...
@NitsaCreativeStudio2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried soap water but that might be a good idea, especially to remove sticky paper 👍 and yes, I print color with high saturation and b&w with high contrast

What is special about using gesso for transfers ? As you demonstrated, it's just a solid filler mixed with paint. Why add gypsum, or starch, when you can just use PVA liquid on it's own, (ie school glue, Modge podge, Liquidex etc.) - isn"t the gypsum, corn starch etc. just filler ? If you sieze the surface first do you need a solid material filler ?
@NitsaCreativeStudio Жыл бұрын
I actually do like to use gesso for photo transfer every now and then, when there's a need to primer the surface. In that case it simply eliminates one step, which is not a big deal, but yet it's nice 👍
