Loosen your fuel cap then retighten it.... it should start. My guess is that the fuel cap vent holes are plugged and your creating a vacuum in your tank to the point your carb cannot suck the gas from the tank. Loosening the cap removes the vacuum. If this works then find the vent holes and open them. I just use my air compressor. Hope this works.

Happened to my John Deere. The fuel cap has a tiny hole in it. It got clogged and died. Then it would run. Then die again. I used a needle to unplug the hole and it hasn't had any issue since last summer.

I find I had better luck with Spectracide than with the Bayer. It seems to be more potent and fast acting. I rarely need to follow up since I started sharing with my neighbor. He is upwind and I split the cost of a bottle and sprayed his yard too, it's helped keep his weeds from infecting my lawn.

Jake, check the fuel your using. Had the same problem with our Wheelhorse Tractor which is 34 years young. Checked and replaced everything and finally took it to our dealer and he said it's fine and checked it all out and it was the fuel. Gummed up everything inside? Only use rec fuel in everything! DO NOT USE REGULAR FUEL it only gums up everything!

I use Marvels Mystery Oil in the gas and nothing gets gummed up, it also cleans the carb while you mow. My formula: 1-1/2 gal gas, 1 Tbs each of 2-cycle oil + Marvels Oil. This stuff is cheap and the mower runs like a Timex watch.

2,4d is the chemical used in most lawn weed sprays. Go to tractor supply and buy the groundworks brand, its made by Gordon's and an $11 bottle will make up to 36 gallons, never buy from the hardware store its 3 times as much.

Your explanation of surfactant is good but, dish soap should not be used with herbicides. Dish soap will actually bind to the components of the herbicide and cause it to lock out and not kill as well and in some cases ruin the herbicide and its effectiveness. "MSO" Methylated Seed Oil is a pretty common surfactant used in herbicides to increase their effectiveness as much as 3x. Different herbicides require different surfactants so it is good to read label to make sure you use the surfactant for the herbicide you choose.

It's not the stickiness. Maple syrup is sticky and is not a good surfactant. It's the breaking of water surface tension.

I wondered if pre spraying just water and surfactant soap on problem patches givng it a few minutes to work and break down the waxy coating and surface tension, then apply the 24d and surfactant on the more vulnerable weeds.

Might be overkill.... but you need an ester based product in the spring. In a heavy fertilized lawn the amine products didn't work well for me at label rates. Also had really good luck with Southern AG Non-Ionic surfacant. I mix it at 1.5 tablespoons per gallon for all herbicides. Adding Methalated seed oil at 1-1.25 tablespoons per gal helps a lot too. Those two things allow me to finally mix at or below label rates & no lawn harm. And if it's below 75F outside you could definitely go 125%-150% label rates. But over 75-80F you'll burn the shit out of your lawn at 150%+. Reapply probably like 3x. I had to apply 3x to kill clover at label rates. Had to switch chemicals from 2-4D to Triclopyr also. Super impressed with: Triclopyr and dicamba. Moderately impressed with quinchlorac and minimally impressed with 2-4D. Except dandilions. 2-4D kills the shit out of dandilions.

Jake, there is a check vale in the gas cap that is probably clogged with a bug or some dirt. If this vent is clogged, the gas tank will start to develop negative pressure (vacuum) as the engine runs, until the gas flow just stops. This happened on my tractor and cleaning the vent hole fixed the problem. Bill

Hey Jake. Check the little vent hole on your lawn mower fuel tank cap. It should have a small hole in the center of the cap to let the tank take in air. If it's clogged it will run for a few minutes and then vapor lock the tank and run the mower out of fuel. Let me know if that works !!

I laughed so hard watching this. After digesting hundreds of hours of the Lawn Care Nut, I can tell y’all were definitely neighbors, and that you were influenced by his style. Nothing wrong with that at all, I just had a good laugh watching a mini AL. 👍 great video. As an aside, it’s not the “sticky” nature of soap that allows it to improve the performance of herbicides. We often use the word “stick” to describe the actions of surfactants when it comes to herbicides, but it’s a bit of a misnomer. Detergents bond to water molecules, changing the waters ability to form polar bonds with its own molecules and sticking to itself, which create the beading effect that you see when you put water on waxy surfaces. When you add detergent to the chemical, it therefore allows you to get a much thinner and more uniform coating on the weed, as water that is not allowed to bead spreads out into the thinnest layer it possibly can. The thinner coating of water and larger surface area covered allows for faster absorption by the tiny pores of the plant and promotes absorption, increasing both the speed and amount of chemical absorbed by the plant. The easiest way to picture this is to think about two equally full glasses of water. If you spill one and leave one standing upright, which one gets absorbed or evaporates first? The upright glass represents a bead of water, which is typically convex in shape and thicker than water that isn’t beaded. Theoretically, if you spilled both glasses with exactly the same amount of water in them, but added dish soap to one, the puddle with soap would be thinner and larger, and therefore evaporate or absorb (depending on how absorbent the surface you spilled on) quicker than the other, due mostly to having a thinner layer of liquid and a larger surface area. Science sure is neat.
