Tip from a golf course green-keeper: add the seed to the sand/soil mix before spreading it on the lawn surface

Great tip! I remember doing something similar with wildflower seed and sand to make it easier to spread. 👍

I've given up trying to have a perfect lawn. Several years on the trot I've filled the dips, removed all the dandelions, aerated it, added a top dressing of compost and overseeded it. Some bad bits of couch grass got dug out and turfed using turf that was grown in seed trays in my greenhouse. Now it's just got s robot mower on it that mows daily and once every now and then I'll buzz round the outside with a strimmer. It's already had way too much time and money thrown at it. I'm surprised you're working on the lawn anyway. I thought you'd be in the workshop 😁

Just wanted to say that the upturned pallet with a paving slab on top works brilliantly at levelling the lawn. One thing I would recommend is a pre seed fertilizer to give the seeds a bit of an early boost and encourage strong root growth. I got mine from A1 with my seed.

Just started seeding a patch of garden we had levelled... trying to make the most of the sun and showers at the moment - I just hope a downpour doesn't wash it all away!! Thanks for the video. Karen

Always nice to see gardening on your channel. Everything is so behind this year with the very strange weather..from the wettest winter in ages to a month with no rain. PS I use a spazzel for lawn topdressing too 👍👍

With the warm week we had back in March, I thought I’d make an early start on my lawn and did exactly everything you’ve done back on April 1st. Well since then we’ve basically had a drought, 2 days of snow and many mornings of frost. My sprinklers have been working overtime and it hasn’t really been warm enough for a fast transformation but I’m happy with the results considering the cool and dry weather. I’ve gone back over some patches just like you and hoping for great results by the end of May.

Went through this a couple of years ago, screened tonnes of top soil I had dug out for a patio,;the same way you did with a rake, a screen and a barrow. Took days..Raked and levelled my whole garden nice and flat, seeded it all.. Then a colony of moles decided to take up residency 🤦‍♂️! Haha..

Looking great. I need to do something similar but with compost and a few pallets of sod. My soil is primarily sand so I don't need anymore of that... Luckily I have a great soil and mineral supplier and I can get anything by the yard. (close enough to a cubic meter) :) The only desirable grass varieties for my area are only available in sod form as they can't start from seed.

I am so envious of your garden 😍, it is such a good size and all the things you do to it are right up my street. Maybe one day I will have one like that, but in the last year the prices of houses with big gardens have shot up nearly £100,000 around here (quite near you actually) in "the race for space" during lockdowns and home working 😒.

How long did you manage to keep the kids and chickens off it?!? About to do mine, expecting a good amount of disobedience on the keep off instructions… on the seeding, could this be done before top dressing to ensure contact and reduce bird feeding?

It looked like you cut it after a few weeks and short? Personally if it's a completely a new lawn or even over seeding, I would of left it long and only of cut it after about 4-6 weeks. But there again, I don't have kids running about.

I made a timber version of your concrete 'rake' but with a 5ft straight piece of 4x1 and just kept dragging that back and forward and then at right angles. Flat as a fluke.

Did the same with a 5’ length of 3x2 attached to a wolf interchangeable broom head that I cut the bristles off so I now have a lawn levelling tool as part of my wolf kit and it works a treat. Great gear the wolf stuff. I have telescopic handles that go up to 4 meters long bought for cleaning 1st floor windows in a previous handyman life that come in handy for all sorts including not having to walk over where you just worked. Enjoying all your videos Tim
