DIY Long Range Electric Skateboard For Skatepacking & Longboard Touring: Esk8 Build And Test Run

Skatepacking, or Longboard Touring, is the idea of backpacking on a skateboard or longboard. I want to take it one step further, by doing it on an electric skateboard! In this video, I build and test my long range esk8, built specifically to have hot-swappable batteries for near infinite range (if you have enough batteries)! The whole build is essentially an Ownboard W2 dual belt drive kit strapped to a Loaded Bhangra V2 Flex 1, with a battery case mounted up top to hotswap the batteries in all of sixty seconds. Love the idea of swapping the batteries. Have ordered an Onsra Black Carve and waiting for it to arrive. The closest major towns to me are 20-25 kilometers away, so a roundtrip is ~50km. Nice to see how easy it is to "refuel" along the way.

The case for swappable batteries is a good idea. If the case is getting in the way is it possible to get a smaller case just big enough for one battery and attach below if can find one thin enough? I have a couple of smaller batteries and might see if can find a smaller case for below deck to swap over and get more range

The whole thing is basically an Ownboard kit, just read up on their diy assembly process. It's all pretty straightforward. The only difference is I used a different deck (had to drill the holes myself), and top mounted the battery instead of having it underslung

Well, this build sort of proved it is. Waterproof the ESC and battery containers and you're good

What if you put a switches on the batteries so you can turn one off and turn the other one on

I would have to also wire up the batteries so they were all connected to the ESC. A bit more complicated. This is the easier method
