Thanks so much!!! Garage tech totally disregarded my comments about the missing position tab and proceeded to try to sell me an entirely new opener…

Glad the video helped. Hopefully you didn't have to buy a whole new system for a quick simple fix.

Thank you so much. My son in-law had been living with the problem for 7 years! He had called a door company out, they told him the entire opener needed to be replaced and the actual door needed to be matched to the opener so it needed to be replaced as well! This made him so frustrated he just lived with the problem. After finding your video I was able to surprise him yesterday.

That's awesome! Hope this fixes his problem. Repairmen often aren't really troubleshooters as much as they are salespeople and installers.

So many thanks you and your video, I confirmed, I fixed my garage door with the same problem you were mentioned. Work well with MARANTEC M4500 too. Today 11/10/2024 . After replacement tab for limit open or close sensor. My garage door working well. Again, so many thanks for your sharing. ❤👍 Spend time around 30 minutes. And parts $11.99 with shipping included. 👍

That's awesome! Glad the video helped and you didn't need to call a technician. My own personal bad experiences with repairmen are that they are usually salesmen first. More often than not they also only know how to replace the entire system and not really how to repair anything.

No problem. Glad the video helped. For the longest time it felt like I was chasing my tail and bewildering since the day before the belt tab fell off it worked perfectly.

I’ve been living with this problem for more than 10 years. Just got a garage company charged me $500 but couldn’t fix it and they want another $1000 for putting in new head. I have no idea about this tab. Really awesome.

Another $1000 after they couldn't fix it? That's pretty outrageous. I hope you eventually got the door issue fixed.

Man, thank you! Our springs popped, so when we had it replaced the repair man was confused, and said “just buy a new one.” Found your video an hour later, ordered parts last week, and replaced then fixed the issue today! Thanks again.

Mine had the exact same symptoms, appreciate the video! I was on a mission to replace the rpm sensor before I saw your video. Garage door guys wanted to replace the whole thing of course.
@bensaysthings9 ай бұрын
Cool, glad the video helped. The RPM sensor error seems like the default error code. I got it a few times and it was maddening until I finally figured out and replaced that belt tab. Yeah, garage door people or HVAC people are some of the sneakiest repairmen I've encountered. They'll gladly replace the entire unit, but when it comes to diagnosis or actual repair then suddenly they can't seemed to resolve the issue.

Glad the video helped. When we were troubleshooting the Marantec it was maddening at times because the manual wasn't very helpful and every time it seemed like it was pointing to a bad RPM sensor. Also there weren't many videos we could find that helped us resolve our specific problem. So after piecing together various videos and reading review on Amazon of the RPM sensor we saw someone mention that it might actually be the plastic tab fell off the belt. So we gave it shot and it worked for us.

Sir, you are lucky that it was just the tabe for the drive belt. I just changed out the tab today (my orignal plastic was held on by 1 of 2 of it's own plastic wrap-around) to the identical 1 you have, but it did not solve the exact issue of the garage door retracting back up after it touches the ground..... fyi: I had the system relearned twice, but my lighting indicator still remains to say that it is the 'photo eye system' though it it is clean & the light is red on 1 side & green on the other side as required.
@jimmyvollman75963 ай бұрын
I had to change the whole belt, and your video helped a bit. I would not have looked for that little tab if I hadn't seen it, so thanks. My problem now is that the light bulb and LED 6 blink when the door goes to the UP position. Strange. Any ideas? It's the code for obstruction of the electric eye, but the door goes down and stays down perfectly. Im confused.
@bensaysthings3 ай бұрын
I think it might be the Marantec could be over driving the door in the up (open position) meaning that it's pulling the door open all the way then continuing so that the trolley bottoms out or contacts the Marantec Operator Housing. It could be the door open position needs to be reprogrammed. Here is a link to the manual if you need it. Look for page 19. www.garagedoorzone.com/assets/images/M4500e_M4700e_Opener_Manual.pdf Hope this helps.

Thank you! We so appreciate your wonderful advice! We've had this problem for years. Like the person whose comment appears before this one, we were told by our garage door company that we needed to replace the entire device. That didn't make sense to me, so we decided to wait, and time passed. I just now installed the tab, and the door works properly! The only problem is that the door stops about 1 1/2" from the floor. I haven't messed with the settings on the opener and am wondering if I can avoid that by moving the tab (i.e., removing the one I installed and installing a new one 1 1/2" nearer to or farther from the opener. Does that make sense? If so, do you know whether I should move it nearer to or farther from the housing of the opener?
@bensaysthings9 ай бұрын
You could move the tab a closer or farther from the door, but I would recommend reprogramming the opener. The reason being if your tab position is slightly off and the motor closes the garage door to more than 1.5" then it would technically be trying to push the door into the floor by however much you're off of the 1.5". This might cause the motor to overheat or could trigger the overlimit sensor and bounce the door back up because the opener thinks it has run into an obstruction. Here's a copy of the manual if you need help reprogramming it. You'd follow the steps on pages 18-22 of the manual. www.garagedoorzone.com/assets/images/M4500e_M4700e_Opener_Manual.pdf

Thanks a lot for this video. I’m having the same problem but my tab is ok. I also tried to reset the OPEN and CLOSED door positions, but LED #7 always flashes after I set the positions. The problem is still there. Do you have any suggestions on this issue?
@bensaysthings3 күн бұрын
Not seeing what the issue is exactly this is my best guess. Since the tab is okay the only thing I can think of is when you set the OPEN/CLOSED position the tab may not be in the correct location on the belt, so when you set the OPEN or CLOSE for your door the tab never makes it to the Marantec unit to trip the sensor. OR if the tab does make it all the way back the sensor in the Marantec the sensor is faulty and doesn't register the tab passing by. IF this is the case it could be a bad sensor. There's a link to the manual in the video description.

Any advice for what to do if your garage door has the chain instead of the belt? Our garage door is doing the same thing except we have a chain. Thanks!
@bensaysthings11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure but I believe garage door openers that use a chain have a similar tab that secures to the back side of the chain. You might try googling your garage opener model and adding in "chain limit tab" and maybe there's a replacement part for it.

My exact garage door motor doesn't do the auto-reverse when it senses an obstruction. How would I fix that setting?
@bensaysthings11 ай бұрын
It might be the limits or force sensitivity might need to be reprogrammed. Not knowing the exact issue all I can offer is the manual. www.garagedoorzone.com/assets/images/M4500e_M4700e_Opener_Manual.pdf Hope it helps, otherwise you might need to call a technician.

How would you get it in the closed position if it wont close should I pull the red lever?
@mustard81977 ай бұрын
Do also HAVE to reprogram it or is it fine if I dont
@bensaysthings7 ай бұрын
Pulling the red lever (or cord that goes to the red lever) decouples the opener from the garage door itself and then you can open the door manually as if there were no opener in place. This is usually for scenarios such as a power outage. However if the door won't close at all, for example the door won't move down then it might be a bigger issue like something wrong with the spring or door opener itself. I'm assuming your opener does move the door up/down and you're getting the bounce problem I had in the video. Then you can make the opener move the door up or down to exactly where you want during the programming stage. Here's a link to the manual if you need it: www.garagedoorzone.com/assets/images/M4500e_M4700e_Opener_Manual.pdf

I would reprogram it since it would ensure your setup is running as intended. Section 8-16 in the manual details how to set things up.

I have one of these, and the lead 8 are not turning on. Any idea why? Thanks!
@bensaysthings Жыл бұрын
When we were trouble shooting the bounce problem in the video we had only Lead 8 was illuminated when both 8 and 4 should've been ON for normal operation. If you're still getting normal operation with your garage door it could be the light for Lead 8 might be burned out, but if your garage opener is doing something strange then I'm not sure without troubleshooting the problem. Here is a link to the manual for the Marantec m4500e and 4700, hope it helps. www.garagedoorzone.com/assets/images/M4500e_M4700e_Opener_Manual.pdf
