This is wonderful and so informative. A lot of Pinterest recipes are full of chemicals. If you’re going to DIY it makes sense to make it non toxic. Love the labels with recipes. Thieves detergent scent seems to stay. One thing I do is add clove and cinnamon EO to wool dryer balls. Those warm scents seem to hang on. People are always asking my kiddos what mom uses to wash their clothes. :) I’m definitely using this recipe as well.

The best thing to do is to wash out the stain right away, spray the stain remover on it, and then wash in the next wash. Here's my stain remover video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYfWmYt9hJhglac

I am highly allergic to many popular laundry detergents. Tide is the worst. I'm so sensitive to it I can tell by being close to someone if they use it on their clothes. Bounce, Downy, Snuggle are just as bad. When my neighbors are doing laundry I can't sit outside because it will trigger an asthma attack from the vapors in the air.

One of the main ingredients in Sal Suds is SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) and it's known to be a skin, lung, and eye irritant. You said you avoid commercial detergents because they contain sulfates and then added sulfates to your recipe. I'm confused.

Thank you for explaining just how toxic the store-bought detergents are. It’s terrifying when you realize all of these carcinogens and chemicals are in these products that we use every day. I’m glad people are beginning to wake up to the corporate corruption. Any small thing I can do to cut some of these corporations out of my life I will gladly do. Making your own cleaning products and body soaps out of natural products is a great first step.

Hi how does this compare to using Sal suds neat as it says on the bottle ?
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife 3 жыл бұрын
You'll end up wasting Sal Suds as it's super concentrated, but I guess you could use just a little bit and it might be similar. This recipe makes it so that it's very thick and easier to pour.

Sure! We have one we got at Home Depot, but had to take it out, so now I don't remember which brand it was. It was a popular, well-known brand.

I just found this recipe and it looks like a great alternative to the DIY recipes on youtube! Just a question though, would I be able to safely mix/melt in a laundry booster like borax or washing soda, or even oxi clean? I live in a complex where we can only wash with cold water and I neeeeeed all the boosts I can get to clean our messy family's clothes! So throwing them in as powders is not an option

I make homemade laundry soap using a Fels Naptha bar (grated) laundry soda and borax. I add it to water in a stock pot and dissolve over low heat until all is mixed well. This works great in cold water washes.

Hello, how much do you use per load? Is it the “regular” used in store bought detergents. I’m making this tomorrow. Thanks.

For anyone interested, I’ve learned you need no more than a 1/4 cup for a load. Half of that if it’s a small load (HE washing machine). I’ve also learn you can use 2 tablespoons of sal suds alone which is 1 3/4 caps. I’ve done that as well. Both ways work well.

Question: can you sub sal-suds with Castile soap?
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife Жыл бұрын
No you really can’t - it doesn’t clean clothes well at all. It’s better for basic household cleaning and washing the hands and body.

Oh sorry about that! It’s 1/3 cup for a regular load in an HE washer.

Would like to know how this affects washers compared to other DIY products. I did not know this until recently, but most DIY laundry soaps (Zote) are only good for handwashing with scrub boards and will ruin machinery over time, voiding any warranties. It you are going to use industrial machinery, you have to use it with products made for the purpose. So, do you know whether Sal Suds fits the bill on that one?

Hi, so u bought the 16oz sal suds bottle by mistake. Will it still work if I use 2 cups of sal suds instead of 2 1/4 cups?

I think it’ll still work well! If you want to be on the safe side, then reduce the water by a little bit, too.
