Have never seen these & don't know if they're still "in" but it's a great stovetop cover idea. I do think you took some shortcuts that a pro or semi-pro, or even my husband, who's a hobby woodworker, would frown upon - like not gluing the 4 boards together before gluing the side boards on. He's very particular about doing things the right way, especially if it's a product you've made & you're going to sell to others, or even give to family or friends.

I had to make mine a little different as I have a glass top inset int my countertop. The control knobs stick up so I needed some height around the edge. I found an unfinished cupboard door at the big box hardware store that was close to the size I needed. Then bought 1x2 board and cut to length for 3 sides of the door (1 long side, 2 short sides) then placed them around the outer edge of door. This was just enough extra to make it fit perfectly over the glass top and controls. Painted black, added handles and vinyl sticker with laurel wreath, initial and EST date. Love it! So helpful in a small kitchen that doesn’t have much counter space. 👍

Thanks for playing along Kim! 😂 Let’s be honest I watch these videos to see Kim’s reactions. They are just priceless. These look so nice, but just not a project for me. I would be stressing about having one in my house. Where does it go when I cook? Will it be one more surface to clean? Will I trip while carrying stuff on it? But the most important question, where will my permanent tortilla warmer pan go? That lives permanently on my stove. You see all the stress this can cause?!?! Lol But here’s hoping someone asks me to make one for them because they look so awesome 🥰
@KimandGarrettmakeit

Ha!!! Lol! Thanks Helen! Funny, the tortilla pan question came up in our house as well! I made Garrett put it away for filming. Luckily we have a spot at the end of the island where we can lean ours when the tortilla pan comes back out. :)

I don’t know why but at the very end when you guys were picking it up talking about putting popcorn on it and bring it to the living room, I was thinking a thin glass insert perfectly squared in would protect the vinyl and keep it food safe. I think I might do that when I make mine. I love the way y’all simplified it. It’s gorgeous! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

My husband made one for me out of a pallet. It was sanded and then I took white paint and watered it down a little and white washed it. When it dried it look a little grayes I took clear polyurethane. I lightly sanded it and put another coat. I did this three times. I put four little stripes of felt on each corner so my stove wouldn't get scratches on it.

A year or so back you used your laser on a cheese board for me. To add the handles I used a chalk pen painted the bottom of the hole area and set it down where I wanted the handles to be. When I lifted it up the hole area was perfect for me to predrill the holes. Good idea too is when seasonal vinyl goes on sale I buy that for stenciling. Way cheaper. 😉 Ps your board came out great!

They explained the efficiency was the reason, at the end of the video. It makes a mess, it’s unnecessary, and like Kim and Garrett explained, it takes more time. Plus, you have all the enforcement you need in the side brace pieces, no need for extra glue. Hope this helps!

Garret, I can only imagine. My entire craft space, most of my office and my husbands office are in the garage at the moment. We are getting ready to finish our basement floors, self leveling concrete, life proof vinyl plank flooring. Stuff is everywhere! As we are going through this I was thinking about you guys and the chaos you must have been living with! Not sure if it would help, but maybe a darker wall color, something to absorb the light more. Take a less techie approach to the solution. Love you guys, keep up the great work!
