In this video I'm showing the differences between Spotwelders. / leopryside
I'm comparing Spotwelders you can buy of the shelf against the one I built. They work quite different and produce different results.
Which one is really worth it's money and what is not recommendable and the true cost of everything.

If you buy one get a Kweld. It produces the most consistent welds from all the smaller DIY welders.

I personally didnt see a big difference in welding constiancy between this one and the kweld... They both weld bad black spots, when you place the probes on the wrong, so good handling is important on both, but the joules feature definitely helps a bit

You mention an advantage of ac welders that current flows both ways through the weld - this requires a weld duration of 20ms or more, for one full cycle at 50 Hz but you recommend short duration welds and showed a 5ms duration...

Okay, there are multiple factors at play here. The first one beeing, that the AC welder doesnt produce nearly as many amps as the lipo battery does. So longer welding times than just the 5ms of a Sequre Welder are perfectly accaptable. I usually weld with around 30ms on my ac welder. What I didnt fully explain in the video is how Triacs (solid state relais) percisely work: They are usually "Zero point switching triacs" which means everytime the voltage crosses 0V they can turn off. but can turn on at any wanted point. a 50Hz sinus cycle has two points at which it crosses 0V, once at T/2 and at T. (T beeing 20ms) so to get a spotweld thats welded in both directions you only need anything more than 20ms.

I paid 380 for 52v 20Ah triangle battery. I'm wanting to get to 72 v and whatever I can do for distance. What do you think I should do? I never made a pack. I've got a soldier gun wire feed for starts.

It only takes 5 to 10 minutes to cut winding out of a microwave transformer. I done 4 about 1 years ago to make a arc welder. I also made spot welder exactly the same with timing board. That only took 5-minutes to cut winding out. And is 1000w If it's taking 3 hours definitely doing something wrong

Kleine Frage.

@Pryside
@Pryside 2 жыл бұрын

Just for information, electrons flow from the plus to the minus pole. The definition was made before the physical knowledge was present.
@Pryside
@Pryside 3 жыл бұрын
You couldn't be more wrong. www.sciencedirect.com/topics/engineering/electron-flow What people refer to "current" is not electrons. Its the positive charge leaving the battery cathode, flowing to the anode. But in reality we call it positive current because its a displacement of the negative electrons which flow from the anode to the cathode.

@@Pryside I think we have talked past each other. I should have been more specific, you are right. I was referring to this: web.engr.oregonstate.edu/~traylor/ece112/beamer_lectures/elect_flow_vs_conv_I.pdf
