1:45 maybe I need to read the instructions but I thought you were supposed to leave the plastic fitting in regardless of whether it was copper or whatever
@themaintenanceman1 Жыл бұрын
Nope. You can. It won’t hurt anything but with copper you pull that plastic out. It’s personal preference. It’s not required for copper or cpvc but you don’t have to remove it.

@@themaintenanceman1 my personal preferences is to use less expensive fittings. PEX-A compression is kind of hit or miss. You shouldn't have to pay a few dollars more for compression versus a cinch ring. Those caps to cap off your work are priceless every handyman should have all three or four sizes in duplicate or more in his toolbox at all times!
@themaintenanceman1 Жыл бұрын
@@xephael3485 the caps are definitely worth EVERYBODY having them. Same with the slip joint one. I’ll be honest well where I live everything is cooler besides new construction but copper is the cheapest. When you add the fittings on for pex that’s when copper wins. It’s so so cheap to solder and buying copper pipe is dang near the same as pex now. But you gotta work with what you like! Thanks for sharing and commenting!

I have used sharkbite as a homeowner for 6 years. I never had them leak on me. I had sharkbite quarter turn shut off valve get stuck and won't turn the water off. I will continue to use them in the future. I plan on using more pro press in the future. Thanks for the video

Thanks for watching and commenting! It’s great to hear they have worked out for you. Pro press is great stuff as well. I’ve never had any issues with sharkbite either. They come in handy for sure.

Replaced my home water heater a few years ago. Used shark bites and haven't had a problem.. Thanks for the review. I've heard some trash talk, but they worked for me.

Plumbers just scared to lose out on jobs. But they do work! But are very very expensive that’s for sure. Thanks for sharing your experience with them Pete and thanks for watching!

Love shark bites use them all the time. Here in Minnesota it was made code compliant several years ago. I can't remember when but I have never had one fail either. Been in property maintenance for over 12 years. I do prefer a solder joint but most often I now I pro-press especially for large pipes
@themaintenanceman1 Жыл бұрын
Nice! I’m not sure if they still aren’t code compliant here but also nobody cares lol. Solder and pro press all the way though 🤜🤛. Thanks for watching and commenting Micheal!

I didn't realize that about the plastic piece. I'm guessing its required for PEX because of how flexible it is and needed for internal rigidity. I almost never use sharkbite but I keep several on the truck because there have been a couple times where I couldn't solder and water was pouring out. As time goes on I feel like I can trust them more because their reputation proves they can last.

Yeah I picked up on the plastic tip a few years ago. Now it doesn’t hurt to leave it in either but with shark bites they say for copper and cpvc it is not required. Also I agree as time goes on I trust it more. I don’t think I would ever use a knockoff sharkbite but for a handyman sharkbite definitely aren’t cost effective as opposed to other options so I get that. Thanks for the comment buddy and thanks for watching!
