Thank you for your kind words. You're right, a lot of love went into building this and there were times I thought I had taken on too much and thought about quitting. I'm happy I didn't though. It took considerably longer to build with all of the fine detail work that had to be done. Sometimes I think I probably picked the hardest way to build it but it's what I wanted so I stuck with it.

"This is quite the remarkable work of art!" Very Well Said! What an absolute joy it is to meet this lovely, happy couple whom created their utterly beautiful travel cabin from the wreck of an elderly travel trailer! Together, they've designed and created this uniquely beautiful and practical travel cabin to completely meet their needs and tastes. The very high standard of workmanship shines through wherever one looks, and it's an absolute delight to see such wonderful artistry and craftsmanship. Their combined vision, artistry and skills, together with months of punishing work and expenditure has resulted in one of the most beautiful travel cabins that I've ever seen, it's elegantly simple and simply elegant! A Fatsco Pet Stove would be perfect for their lovely home, it's cast iron and marine grade stainless steel body and 100+ years old classic design would look just right, and at 9.5 inches high, 6 inches diameter, with an 8.5 inch lantern base and a 3 inch diameter stovepipe, it takes up very little space. A lot of wooden boat liveaboard owners put them on tiny shelves as they require minimal clearance from walls or furniture! I have no association with Fatsco Stoves other than as a very happy customer that searched for months for the perfect tiny stove!

Thank you for the kind words! We did consider having a wood stove in here but ultimately there just wasn't space. The wave 3 propane heater was just more practical in the end.
@malachis9674 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. It was very punishing work. I really like wood stoves but as Marina said it isnt very practical for us. We spend most of the winter in the desert where wood isnt plentiful. The trailer also holds the heat very well to the point that I'm opening windows not just for ventilation but to actually let some heat out with our heater on low.

The cabinet work is superb! So is the ceiling, paneling, and aluminum exterior. What a skilled woodworker and craftsman. A question for Malachi - I have a class C. I wondered if there is a material I can use on the rubber EPDM roof that would deflect sun, prevent breakdown of this roof and shield it from the elements like a metal mesh or aluminum sheeting or such. Any ideas?

To the 78 rebuilt fleetwood camper couple- did you guys consider making slideouts before building?
@malachis9674 жыл бұрын
Hey Anne. I wanted to keep this one simple. I didn't want the added time, money, complex building, and propensity to develop future problems that adding slides would have caused. If I build another in the future, I think I will try to incorporate slides in it though. Done right they are amazing, done wrong and they can be a never-ending problem.

Right in the kitchen! The sink covers double as counter space 😉
@malachis9674 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. Marina is right, the sink covers get used all the time. I had also built a counter extension that swings up at the end of the counter near the bed. Unfortunately, when we upgraded to a thicker mattress we lost the ability for it to swing. I still have it though and will try to redesign some time to make it functional again. Items on the desk can also be moved easily which gives a large counter space to work from. It's kinda like working in a kitchen with an island.

Nice work from a nice couple, even if Doug Fir is not a hardwood..!! LOL! That outside wood will eventually turn grey, then black when wet and will be a bear to maintain.. But, you'll find that out in your own time.. For a/c, I think you may be a bit short of solar and controller to replenish the batteries in any reasonable amount of time, whatever they are..
@peterandrews41724 жыл бұрын
I chuckled when he said that too :)……..Thanks for the chuckle
@marinav39054 жыл бұрын
The wood has actually held up really nicely over the two years we have been on the road. It has marine grade polyurethane on it so not turning black anytime soon. Also the AC has hardly been an issue. Part of living this lifestyle is chasing the nice weather so that neither the heat nor the air need to be run!

Evaporative coolers, also known as swamp coolers use water as a cooling agent. Electrical consumption is often considerably lower than an air conditioner. They work well in desert regions.

@@leoblumhagen644 that's why I said in desert regions.
@johanvangelderen2894 жыл бұрын
@@pjf7943 Evaporative coolers are meant to be hung in a window like an air conditioner. Unlike an air conditioner, a window is opened on the opposite side. Cool air from the evaporative cooler enters the structure, and is blown out of the window on the other side. Moisture will not build up in the structure. Evaporative coolers were more popular when air conditioners were expensive. People have forgotten how to use them properly. They use far less electricity. In fact, the powered ceiling vent is all that is needed. The evaporative portion could be as simple as a wet pad in a window on the other end of the rv. A pump wets the pad. Air is sucked through the pad by the ceiling vent. The air cools down from 100 degrees to 70 degrees

@malachis9674 жыл бұрын
It was actually the gas valves for each stove burner that had to be rebuilt. They were so gunked up from previous owners cooking that they would leak gas sometimes. They are a little hard to get apart without damaging them but not too bad. We're on 2 years since I did it and have had no problems since.

@malachis9674 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie. Thank you for your kind words. I considered converting the bathroom into a wet bath but decided against it. It would be very challenging to keep the water out of the wood work with the way it's built now. Now that the motorcycle is no longer being carried on the back, I've considered moving the back wall back to the original length of the trailer and building a really nice shower and making the bathroom a bit bigger. Honestly though, showering outside with a pop-up tent is pretty nice. Tons more space to move around and the hot water steams and warms up the inside very quickly. It's comfortable to shower like that down to the 40s and 50s.
