Thank you for the most complete and well explained version of a retro fit I've seen. As a woman with little carpentry knowledge I now feel confident I can do this by myself. You have saved me so much time and money for that I am most grateful.

Very good video. One of the few complete freestanding videos with cemented posts instead of those post blocks. A lot of other deck videos use post bases with stand offs to prevent rot. Is that not a concern where you reside?
@rontalleyКүн бұрын
@@FyrFytr998 stand offs are a better option for long term concerning the post rotting over time. I’m just old school and that’s the way we were taught based off of industry practice. Not only will the post rot over time, the entire deck will as well and eventually will need to be replaced. By that time, the stand offs will be old news and there will be some bigger and badder way.

Thank you so much. I was able to fix my Pit Boss with this video. I thought I needed to buy a whole new one. I was able to fix mine with simple tools and it works like a champ now. Question -- How were you able to fix this yours utilizing the kitchen table? My wife would kill me if I did this fixing in the kitchen table.
@rontalley2 күн бұрын
@@miltonvasquez9514 It was HOT outside! Diffidently should have covered up the table.

Not sure where your from, but these are certainly not cheap compared to wood pickets where I live. Its $41 for 10 balusters, and that is the self assemble kit, and only the balusters themselves. The pre-assembled kit is about 20% more expensive ($120 for 6 feet). Mind you, that is using the name brand. I bet I could find some knock-offs for a lot less if I dig around online and ship them from Cambodia.

@@danmoyle1637 I’m in NC, USA. They were$2 a spindle including the connectors... I put all the links in the description. The wood spindles were about $1.50 each at the time I made this video. Definitely takes longer and cost more but the look is totally worth it, IMHO.

Man, you just designed my whole railing system for me! I have been struggling with rebuilding my deck including removing all the rotted railing, balusters, and entire staircase including handrails, stringers, and treads. You said this may be more "labor intensive" than regular wood balusters, but now I don't have to go around and paint or stain all those balusters after installation. What are those caps on top of the 4x4 posts? Did you notch the sides of the 4x4s at the bottom? Are those angled baluster brackets adjustable? What kind of wood are you using to support those balusters? My staircase is a 10" run and an 8" rise, would that work for those brackets? THANK YOU.

This step by step guide was super helpful! Thank you so much. I had a newly made door to install, so couldn't hold it up to pencil in the guidelines, but thanks to your explanation of where to put the template, I measured the opening, and then marked that shape onto the back of the door. I could never have figured out how to install the door, hinge, and tray by myself!
