This is our first DYI ever, the built in to enclose an 80" fireplace, covered with shiplap. Feel free to ask any questions. Please don't mind the few typos in the video.

Thank you. The Mantel a guy from FB Market place made from me. It is pine. He charged me $200 is not solid wood (which I prefer actually, itd be too heavy)

Looks great! I’m also about to do this same kind of setup in my home as well but I also have 8ft ceilings. How high did you mount the mantle from the floor? I’m having trouble with this right now because I want a good size tv above the mantle but I need space too.

The bottom of the Mantel is 35" from the floor.

Don't do a mantle if you are also mounting a TV. The mantle will push the TV too high above the floor.

10 inches on each side. The back of the fireplace is 76" and our frame 96"

How high is your fireplqce from the ground, I've read to do at least 15 inches.

I just measured. The frame (perimeter) is 9 inches. The fireplace screen is 12 inches from the ground.

1. The TV is way too high. You cannot properly watch TV when the bottom of the TV is 60 inches above the floor. 2. One major flaw with this design (as with so many KZbinrs DIY-ing electric fireplaces) is attempting to create a traditional looking fireplace with electric clone while adding a TV above. 3. Electric fireplace is not traditional; therefore the mantle serves no purpose. The mantle added at least 24 inches of unnecessary height to the TV mount. The design guideline should be “mantle or TV” but not both. 4. If you choose mantle route, you should just skip the TV altogether. Otherwise your hard work will only result in neck pain. 5. If you choose the fireplace/TV combo. You should follow the rules that the TV should be mounted no higher than 42 inches above the floor. This means that close to 90% of the KZbin videos regarding DIYing fireplaces are misleading their audience. 6. I am so surprise that very few comments talking about the flaw with electric fireplace+mantle+TV design. Neck Pain is just not worth it.

@@churro.thebulldogIt's nothing against you. You made the whole space look very nice. It's unfortunate that most electric fireplace build did factor this into their design. My question is this: would you hang your TV at this height if there is no fireplace?

@@raymondchow8722 No. I used to have it at the recommended height before the fireplace. The way it is now is a bit high but we can live with it because we don't watch a lot of TV, most of the time the TV is just showing whatever music is playing in the room.

@@churro.thebulldog Yeah that make sense if you have a large enough house with what you described and another dedicated viewing room for serious video entertainment. But with today's real esate prices, I would hate it if one of those viewer who convert their only video room into a super high TV set up and regreted it.
