In this one I build a DIY Sim Racing rig for under $100. The rig is solid and with a CSL DD steering wheel and CSL Elite v2 pedals with a load cell brake mounted I didn't notice any flex at all.
Thanks for watching. Please like, comment and subscribe if you would like to see more sim racing content like this.
What I used for this build:
A second hand seat
Approximately 9.82 metres of 4 x 2 (Allow some extra for mistakes, wastage etc)
12x - M8 x 100mm Coach/ Carriage bolts (Optional, you can just use screws)
12x - M8 Nylon lock nuts (Not needed if you are just using screws)
12x - M8 Washers (Not needed if you are just using screws)
Approximately 30x - 6mm x 100mm Woodscrews
Black satin spray paint
Measurements for cutting:
Long lengths that make up the base of the rig - 2 lengths at 127cm
Short lengths that make up the base of the rig - 2 lengths at 58cm
Seat base lengths - 2 lengths also at 58cm
Vertical Upright - 2 lengths at 56cm to the longest point (Top cut at 45 degree angle)
Diagonal Uprights - 2 lengths at 98cm to the longest point (Mounted at 45 degree angle)
Steering Wheel Base Crosspiece - 1 length cut at 49cm (Mounted at 8 Degree angle)
Pedal Base Uprights - 2 lengths at 20cm to the longest point (Cut at 22.5 degree angle)
Pedal Base Crosspiece - 1 length at 49cm
Pedal Base Crosspiece (Closer to seat) - 1 length at 49cm

I was going to spend hundreds on a commercial cockpit. You've given me the motivation to go build my own. I think I'll be adding some adjustability to the rig though. Thanks.

Be prepared to spend some time finding a suitable seat at a scrapyard, I got started on a project like this and it took 2 days to get a suitable seat.

Do I have any clue on making a rig? NOPE .. did i watch the whole entire video? YES, yes i did 😂 It looked so good at the end. I love the finish on the paint. Great informative video, thank you! 🥺😍

Very nice build, I did something similar for my son. My tip is put some furniture wheels on it to make it easier to move around, and also clean under and around it. I put four regular wheels and two locking wheels on my sons rig and that works perfect. I also put those wheels on my 8040 aluminum rig for the same reasons.

Well thought out design and executed build. I considered doing the same for my G29, but due to a severe lack of space, I was forced to buy a foldable wheel stand. While not nearly as steady and beefy as yours, it has served its purpose well.

One of the cleanest diy I've seen. The best one I've seen of this design. Everyone else rushes through it. Doesn't care about the fit and finish.

I just built one but i took ideas from a couple of blueprints to fit my needs. One thing i see is their all in bare wood or painted wood. i make subwoofer boxes as a side hustle and had some polymat and covered the whole thing with it. you can buy the polymat with a sticky side or do the spray can method. homedepot also got a version of polymat thats gray and alot cheaper but i did mine in black polymat. Polymat looks like the carpet in most cars. I will say it did add cost and time to the build but its wasn't too much

Hey man, wanna say thanks for the simple and straight forward guide. I finally built my own rig with your guide, and it's solid! I love it, thanks man. Oh yeah and it really was £80 all in, just over $100. I just used nuts and bolts for the seat rail, and it's very sturdy. Nice comfy S line audi seat too 😎

Small suggestions, as i was in that state also: 1. I would go with wheels for easier manouvering. 2. Think about raising your pedals and get an more "backwards" angle on your seat so that your pedals are nearly in the height of your butt. to 2. i was pessimistic about that also but i tried it... man what a difference, there are good videos about it and honestly i think i got faster and more consistent on the track, because you can be way more consistent on the brake, especially if you have a loadcell like you do. Beside my critic: good work.

Very informative and helpful, i plan on giving these measurements to a carpenter, could you tell me what is your height? That would help me to decide if the pedals and the wheel are close or far. Thanks.

Hi, great to hear you are planning on recreating this. I am 6'4" tall. If at all possible before you get a carpenter to complete this build I would recommend testing out some different pedal angles first. As stated in the the video I went with 22.5° but you may find that angle to be too much. Hope this helps!

Hi, coach/carriage bolts do provide a more secure fit but screws will also be perfectly fine. Aesthetics also played a part in my choosing of coach bolts - if I was trying to build this cockpit as cheap as possible I would happily use screws.

I did mine with only screws and some L metal brackets to secure some connections (upright pillars mostly), and there's absolutely zero flex even with a (entry level) direct drive wheel. When attached properly, wood is much stronger than what some people think :)

I don't want to be that guy but for a person that doesn't own a tape measure, drill, etc this is not suitable. Just spend $500 to $ 1000 on a rig and be done with it. This is for me because i have all the tools, minimum you need to spend $500 on something you'll be happy with, and don't feel the need to upgrade in 3 months because you watch another video with a sexy rig.

Screws can also crack the wood as close as he is to the end, drilling stops that, and not much of a bother.
