Coconut Oil soap Recipe: (this recipe makes approx. 9 lb of soap)
108 oz Coconut oil
15.8 oz Lye (for 20% SF)
22 oz Distilled Water (with 2 T cane sugar dissolved in it, before adding lye, then a cotton ball size amount of Tussah Silk fibers to hot lye solution)
7 oz Pure Coconut Milk (added to oils)
plus additives I add: 2 T Kaolin Clay, 2 T Colloidal Oats, & Fragrance (please use a fragrance and/or essential oil calculator for the particular scent you're using)
Caution: Coconut oil soap can get very hot in the mold, so I recommend soaping at cooler temps, and not insulating. If you have trouble with overheating, you can refrigerate your freshly molded soap.

@rhondaruss6855
@rhondaruss6855 Жыл бұрын
@@pastryshack551 Babassu oil is an oil with a lot of the same characteristics as coconut it's white and solid at room temperature it comes from palm seeds. It's much lighter on the skin and absorbs well. It like coconut oil gives a big bubbly lather. Castor oil is also a seed oil that has many uses both internally and topically. In soap it increases lather.

I really enjoy your videos Ellen 😊 I’m new to soap making, I’ve watched a few other videos where the milk (any milk) is added after the lye and oils are mixed together to avoid scorching of the milk, change of color and undesirable smell of the soap. How do you avoid the above with this recipe, since you added the milk before the lye? I’m curious to try your technique. Thank you.

Can someone please help me? I put the 💯 coconut oil in the recipe calculator and the 20% SF but what is the lye concentration? And the fragrance ratio? I really want to try this. Please help

I like a steep water discount, so my concentration is around 28%, but 33% is the norm. And each fragrance can have a different usage rate, so be sure to look up whatever one you're using... Most F.O.'s are used at about 5%.

Hi Ellen I are totally awesome with this soap making, I love ❤️ it. I have a question, you said that we need a super fat in the soap but I didn’t see you add anything. So my question 🙋‍♀️ is what is the super fat in the soap? I want to try this soooooo bad but I don’t want to mess it up. I’m definitely going to follow your lead but the super fat you talked about is throwing me off. (HELP)

The SF is factored into the total oils to lye ratio, so this recipe already has it included❣️

Do you usually wait three weeks of four for your soap to cure?

Hello ! Thanks for sharing this recipe . I would like to share with you pictures, but don’t know how to post them here . Thank you you push me out of my comfort zone. I only make soap with makesy 50/50 lye solution. I work with preparing the lye solution for the first time . Thanks to you I did it . Please if you can share an email or other communication method I would like to share with you of the final product.

I’m curious why not add all the coconut water to sodium hydroxide?

I'm using coconut milk, and prefer the milk in oil method over freezing the milk and adding the lye to it.. I find it quicker and simpler this way, but full milk is great too.

Why not just adding lye to the coconut milk instead of mixing it with the oil?

If you want to do a full milk soap, you can freeze the coconut milk and add the lye very slowly.. It takes a bit longer, so I find the milk in oil faster and easier.
