DIY Stay at Home Picnic | How to Make Rice Sandwiches

What to do when you can't go outside? Why not have a picnic at home!
POTATO SALAD (makes 2 servings)
2 small potatoes
6-8 thinly sliced carrots
6-8 thinly sliced cucumbers
salt
3-4 tbsp mayonnaise
TERIYAKI SAUSAGES (makes 2 small servings)
5 mini sausages
1 tbsp water
2 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp soy sauce
pinch of salt
DRY CURRY ONIGIRAZU (makes 1 PLUS extra Dry Curry to enjoy later)
1 clove garlic, minced
1 stub ginger, chopped
1 small piece of carrot, peeled and chopped
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1 tomato, chopped
olive oil
100grams | 1/4 pound ground meat
salt pepper
1 stick instant dashi powder (about 2 tsp)
(CURRY ROUX)
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp curry powder
2 tbsp flour
1 sheet nori
approximately 1 cup cooked Japanese rice
SALAD ONIGIRAZU (makes 1)
1 leaf romaine lettuce
5-6 sticks imitation crab
half avocado, sliced
lemon juice
(Japanese egg omelette)
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
pinch instant dashi powder
cooking oil
1 sheet nori seaweed
approximately 1 cup of cooked Japanese rice

Satoshi’s beard is magnificent! And I’m someone that’s never liked beards! My fave go to Japanese style potato salad is an older recipe in one of Ochikeron’s videos, pretty much like yours but adds onion, corn and ham. It’s early morning and now I’m hungry! I will either be making my own rice paper rolls with the rest of my fresh ingredients or spam musubi that you guys made before later today :) Loved the floor picnic at the end, everything looked delicious!

Such nice comfort food! We've been doing the same. I've been very sick, so my husband has been doing the cooking - and he is NOT a cook! But nice simple food, like hamburger and eggs, hamburger or hot dogs with Kraft mac and cheese, Hamburger Helper, even a simple steak and mashed potatoes. He's done very well for someone who isn't used to cooking nearly every day! And he buys me fruit! Strawberries and green grapes, a nice mini watermelon, and now cherries are finally in season, yay! I'm finally better, I was sick for seven weeks with flu, then bronchitis. And now my allergies make me cough and sneeze, and everyone is afraid of me, LOL! But I only leave my house to go to doctors' appointments, and I wear a mask whenever I am out. I have NO immune system, so I'm really afraid of getting sick again. So nice to see you both looking good, and Justin too! I watch your sister's videos so I can see your mom-chan cook, she is looking so much better too. Stay well!

Shinichi you are right the weiner okazu ya were one of the dishes served like hamburger patties, fried tofu, maki & inari sushi, fried chicken, konbu maki etc.. Slowly the Mom & Pop okazuya places are slowly disappearing in Hawaii. Love Japanese comfort foods.

First: I love how Justin just assumed you laid out the blanket, pillows and flowers just for him. So cute how he just waltzed in and decided to nap amongst the flowers 💐🥰. Second: love how Satoshi says “onion”...absolutely adorable. Third: I wish you would list your recipe ingredients in the video description so I know what to buy at my local Japanese grocery. I really want to make those rice sandwiches 🥪😊 Last: love that you guys always put time, love and care into your time together. You make having a meal together an adventure...even when you can’t go out. 🥰 When I was young my mom would make us indoor picnics when the weather was poor or if I was sick. We always had finger sandwiches, tea and cakes. Some of my happiest childhood memories. Last year for Mother’s Day I took her to a local lake (that she loves) and made us a picnic of finger sandwiches, pasta salad, tea and cakes. We had a wonderful time. Your video brought those memories to the forefront of my mind and made me feel warm inside. 😃😇 So....This year I’m surprising her with a new trellis for her patio...I’m going to decorate it with ivy and flowers and I’m making her a special dinner.
