UPDATE Hey everybody, I have completed build plans for this project. They also include an option to build the cabinet on wheels so you can use it with any saw. Check out all my plans at almfab.com/plans
Build Plans: www.almfab.com...
I really wanted to build a storage cabinet for my saw that moved along with the mobile base. This is my solution and it's working great! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments bellow.
Thanks for watching!

Hi Michael, thanks so much for the great video and plans. I just finished building this cabinet for my SawStop from your plans and am very happy with the way it came out. The support cleats work great and the guidance you provide for installing them was more than enough. I ended up making the drawers out of 1/2 instead of 3/4 ply and just adjusted the length of the drawer faces accordingly. My shop is very small, so having all that drawer space for table saw blades, jigs, tools and accessories helps a ton with basic organization and declutter. I just really appreciate the time and thought you put into this.

I found a source for the melamine in my area and they offered it a one sided version so it is easier to glue onto another substrate. Something to look for if someone else is seeking out this material. I have the same saw and extension and bought the plans for this and I am about to build it. Been watching the video a few times for pointers so getting ready to start finally. Thanks for such a creative idea.

Hey Michael. I came across your site a couple years ago and saw this plan. I thought it was awesome, and it is. I finally finished the project last week. I also say the blade dividers in your shop tours and of course had to do that as well. This is a great consolidation of all my table saw tools scattered around my shop. Thanks for the great table saw cabinet.!!!! The one thing in this build that I had problems with was attaching the fronts to the shelves. You used a hot glue gun to put a temp hold on the drawer fronts. I tried this multiple times (it says it sets up in 25-30 seconds) and I could never get the drawer front to adhere to the drawers. I then tried double back tape to no success. It looks like a great way to temp hold the drawer front on while before you mount with screws. Is there a secret to your success? I was able to get the fronts mounted by clamps and such and they came out wonderful.

Have the identical saw with the 36in extension but I built my cabinet via Brad's style from Fix this Build That that sits on casters. That front leg really gets in the way so I removed it completely and fashioned an adjustable support block that sits on top of the cabinet to support the underside of the saw extension. You gain a ton of room by removing the leg. I think Brad removed both of his completely but I wanted some support.

@johnleonard5857
@johnleonard5857 2 жыл бұрын
Do you have an issue with the table tilting with all of that extra weight on the right side of the saw when the cabinet is fully loaded. I am actually hoping you say yes because I attached the router table to the left side and when I raise it up to move the table the left side has a hard time rising because of the weight of the extension so far from the Center line.

@@MichaelAlm That was my question as well. Glad it's not an issue. I have the same saw and have been thinking of a way to attach an existing cabinet. I thought the legs might need to be beefed up but it looks like you have solved that also. Thanks for sharing.
@MichaelAlm
@MichaelAlm 5 жыл бұрын
@@jeffforbes3772 Right on. Yeah, I think if anything the cabinet makes those legs stronger. That way they aren't floating out in space. If you do build this, make sure you drill out for the bolt heads. Even though the cabinet lifts up off that plate, when it's in the down position, those holes square the cabinet up.

I'm planning to try and retrofit my existing under saw cabinet to ride on the mobile base now that I'm getting the ICS base. Does it matter from a mobility standpoint whether that wheel lifts the cabinet off the ground (instead of using the pump shroud)? I'd think that as long as the base is lifting the saw, the cabinet will follow. Was it putting too much weight on the extension wings?

Here's what I'm planning on doing. First, I don't like the idea of having to readjust the feet on the legs after moving the saw on a floor that isn't level. So, I plan on removing the legs and building a cabinet using the additional space that the legs are blocking. Add casters to the cabinet. Now attach a piece of plywood (8" x 15") to the bottom of the table so that it hangs down along the side of the cabinet. Cut a vertical slot in plywood so that a bolt coming out the side of the cabinet can protrude through the slot. Then add a knob on the bolt so you can tighten and lock the plywood to the side of the cabinet. That will act as the support for the top, replacing the legs. So, when you want to move the saw, loosen the knob which will allow the top and plywood to move up and down as the bolt moves in the slot. The cabinet on casters will move with the saw since the plywood keeps it in position. When you get to the new spot, lower the saw and retighten the knob. This way you don't have to readjust the legs and you gain more space for a larger cabinet.

Great mounting idea Michael, I have the same saw, except I have the overhead dust collection system therefore 2 braces than runs diagonally under the extension table. Have you come across a solution for that by any chance? I could shorten the braces and secure them to the cabinet, and void the warrantee 😏. Thought I would ask.
@zski03
@zski03 4 жыл бұрын
I did! I replaced the diagonal support arm for the floating dust collection arm with a piece of flat steel. It's mounted to the bottom of the leg of the floating arm on one side, and to the mobile base on the other. I just used angle brackets to connect the steel flat to both sides.

My lumberyard stocks it. A lot of industry people use it for work surfaces so it's pretty common.

Not yet. I'm working on a package of plans to be released realistically in the fall. This project will be one. In the mean time you can see my cut list for the top and side panels at 1:22 Hope that helps!
