Thanks for the video. I like to see people repair things as most of my "Small Engine" implements are old. That's why I enjoy small engine repair because a person can repair parts some of the time. Imagine trying to repair a broken electronic fuel injector. You would have to replace it after doing an expensive diagnostic.

Well Donny I am glad you did. These are the videos people want to see as money and time are hard to come by these days. You are the man!!! Welcome back to work :-) I haven't repaired any engines for a couple of months as I had a surgical procedure. So the jobs I am filming in my Red Deer shop are all light duty handyman things until I get my body back. I still have to keep busy though. Keep up the great work. You are an inspiration. Sorry I am so wordy Bruce

As usual; an extremely comprehensive tutorial. One point I would like to make regarding the butterfly shaft handling; if you damage the round parts of the shaft, you must be very careful not to file away too much material as this could cause air to be sucked into the inlet chamber resulting in rough running conditions.

Excellent video and instruction! I really enjoy the step-by-step process, supported by the extreme close ups of this video. You're a natural teacher. Donyboy your videos are excellent and teach so much. I've been watching all your carb videos because I have snow on the ground and my old Tecumseh craftsman is just dying down as soon as I put a load on it, I had it running perfect in the summer when I got it but now as soon as it hit the snow it bogs out. I have the same carb, throttle lever, and governor set-up as in this video. my question involves the carb return spring at the 6:55 mark ... on my snowblower this spring is orientated the oppsite direction as you show. that is, the bottom spring arm rests behind the shoulder... was this installed upside-down ?? Should I switch the spring around (so the bottom spring arm rests in front of the shoulder directly next to the idle screw as shown in you video)?? I recently purchased this used snowblower and making repairs as needed using your videos .. very informative!! thanks in advance

Thanks for the tip. And here is one for You: if You don't wan't to damage the shaft use so called soft jaws, i.e. two pieces of aluminium plates between the vise jaws and the shatf; aluminium will sacrifice it's shape for the shaft and jaws keeping shaft steady and prevent from damaging it ;)

Instead of beating on that choke stem shaft, you could have left it together and just used a bit of JB Weld on it and been back in business in about 5 minutes. That stuff works great on little stuff like that and really holds well.

I just bought my first snowblower, a Toro 521, with a Tecumseh 5hp. It seems to run fine, but I'm concerned about parts cost and availability. If you can find a piece of 2 or 3" copper tubing, cut it lengthwise and flatten it. Cut 2 4" sheets and place them both into the vise vertically and using a hammer form the 2 pieces over the vise tops. Now you have 2 L shaped pieces you can lay onto the vise faces as needed. The copper sheets will protect those softer metal pieces from the steel jaws.

@sjs2657g11 жыл бұрын
Not too much. The jaws displace the brass and by filing down the HIGH spots only you are not taking off enough to cause low spots that would cause that. If you want to check for leaks afterwards, spray or squirt wd-40 or any oil based product on the top where the shaft goes through. Any noticeable increase in engine speed will indicate a leakage problem. If that happens, throw some type of seal o-ring or duct tape where the shaft goes through. See my other comment above.
