I'd love to know if there's a solution to bulky armpit seams too!

You are so good at talking through what you're doing! I am a (very) novice sewist and am about to tackle making a nightshirt and this video has already put more things in my head to consider.

I'm so glad to hear it was helpful! I try my best to explain my techniques for anyone who's interested, but there are much better tutorials here on KZbin when it comes to the technical sewing details. I think the most important thing is knowing exactly what you are trying to achieve with the design - if you can narrow that down, then there are tons of resources available online! Best of luck with your project ✨

Gorgeous project and the hand stitched tag is so lovely. Not sure what it is about chartreuse but I love it too. Sunshine dipped green. But I couldn't never wear it near my face. Kryptonite!

I’ve seen some images of French seams at right angles but I’ve have trouble envisioning the process. And I have to be able to see it in my mind in able to do it! Hopefully you can look it up and then show us. I have a similar idea for a linen men’s shirt upcycle. Thanks for the inspo.

I made a cropped sweater this weekend! By using pinking shears to chop the bottom half off an existing hoodie 🤣 eventually I'll get envious enough and teach myself to make my own top to share! or.. dare I say.. a pant?! p.s. my mom is coming to visit soon and I'm excited to share your videos with her

Yes! I love to hear new people get excited to start sewing. I highly recommend starting with a pattern - there are lots of free patterns for pants online for example! p.s. I am so flattered that you want to share this with your mom, I hope she enjoys!! ✨

The top is very cute and the colours work very well together 😍 I wonder whether sewing the side seams and sleeve seams separately, and then setting in the sleeves "in the round" might result in less bulk where they join? I don't know, it's just a suggestion. Basically when you use French seams on anything but the lightest fabric, there's going to be some bulk where two seams intersect. That's why, in my opinion, even though I love them for something like a cotton lawn, French seams are not always the best option.
@studiobonvon
@studiobonvon 17 сағат бұрын
Yes! Thank you so much for this suggestion, I think you are right about setting the sleeves properly, instead of trying to cheat it. That way, I could flatten the seams as I go. I love using french seams for linen, because even though they are bulky sometimes, they really do a great job preventing the edges from fraying! (I also don't have a serger, so it's a good option for me) I am going to try this on my next project, thank you again!
