I love recovering stools, which are great finds. But, I always use a good furniture cleaner first to make sure any smells and ickies are gone, let it dry, then recover.

There are great ways to display art in both the jewelry box and necklace shelf project either around or in place of a mirror and depending on the tray dimensions it could even be a shadow box with sculpture, plants or a 3d diorama scene. The DIY wall necklace hanger is a really common project for youtube crafters, but the combination mirror/boxshelf/necaklace stand takes this to the next level. It could even become a piece of furniture, providing a vanity mirror and space to set a few key makeup essentials.

You could have finished the edges of the stool cover and put in a drawstring so that you could remove it to wash when dirty,

I had a similar idea to use elastic but a drawstring would be easier. It would also allow you to have different covers and switch up the design of the stool if you wanted to.
