No panel can block all the light. The amound of light blocked depends on the quality of the panel.

+Andrew Wei you can buy some led strip from ebay. Its like 3-5 euros for 5 meters and can be wired straight to a 12v rail on your psu. 5630 leds or something similar should be quite bright.

How would you do this on a tempered glass panel

You could buy a frosted film (like these: www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=glass+frosted+film&_sop=12) to hide the panel electronics and cut a hole in the film to show only the panel. You could hold the panel on the glass with either transparent tape or glue.

We'll probably try to remove the matte film in the future and wire the display straight into the PC's power supply to make it run without the big power board in the case. Thanks for watching!

my display has two of these long circuit boeards (1:40). one on the top and on on the side. really annoying cuz they are conncted by a short strip of wires.

It might be easier to just get another display. Old used 5:4 ones are pretty cheap nowadays.

Did you use cool or warm led strips?

We actually used the original (pretty cool colored) ccfl backlights from the monitor, but it probably depends on your preference. The cool leds probably look more vibrant and the warm ones are easier on the eyes especially in the dark.
