DIY Undercoating My Datsun 280z - Keep Rust Away for Good!

We only have one more step before the Datsun 280z project gets down off the rotisserie for good! Lets undercoat the car and protect it from rust (hopefully) forever!

I would recommend painting under the hood and the engine compartment the same color as the exterior. That's how Datsuns have always been.

Glossy paint is always tougher and more waterproof than flat or satin. So it is a happy accident kinda choice!

Looks gtrat, well done. 😎🤙 Tip for future seam seal efforts that are visible - use the prep cleaner on a brush/gloved finger to smooth it out, gives it a nice finish.

Yeah I'm not 100% on the look of how the seam sealer turned out. But fortunately most people won't see it.

Anyone that does Body work Knows you have to seam seal everything, Undercoating I strongly agree with, Especially if you live on the East coast are you Putting the Original 6 cylinder back in the car Or small block, They are a Fun car to Drive, I have driven all of them 240z and 74 260 z rare car and the 280z like yours, Hope it runs well. The undercoating I always used was Rusfre gallon jugs, Its Rubberized , Or I found something that really works well as a undercoating, I buy it in 5 gallons, RUBR-Coat #57 Made buy Black jack its a rubberized roof coating. You cant tell the difference from undercoating

Awesome! I am on the fence if I want to undercoat my 240 or just leave it with the chassis black, but yours came out really good. Now I am rethinking. When you say you are taking off the rotisserie I am wondering if you gave thought to running the hard brake and fuel lines first. That would be a heck of a lot easier with the car up and before the suspension is in. I suppose the caveat is that if the engine bay is not painted yet, it will make it harder later to paint around the lines. Curious what your plans are. As always, great job and I look forward to your next video.

Yeah I could see the merit in running that stuff. However, I'm not ready to do that yet and I need to get the car off the rotisserie so I can bring the SS in for something. I don't mind doing that kind of stuff under the Quick Jacks.

I think 1000hrs is a low estimate. I've been out here essentially every weekend for the last year. Plus working after getting home from work during the week as I felt like it.
