I used to make these for breakfast all the time, but in a much more cheating way. I would get precooked frozen sausage patties and my roommate had a microwave egg cooker that was designed to make them just for the sandwich. It would take maybe 2 minutes to heat/cook everything and be ready.

I picked up a cheap sandwich maker from Amazon when they first started doing Black Friday in the UK and the discounts were still worth bothering with. You have to precook any meat that goes into it, but it cooks the egg in place and melts the cheese perfectly. I can't eat the patties, but in some places you can pick frozen ones up, making it even faster. Not as nice as fresh, I'm sure, but they exist.

Wow... Barry is completely unaware of the concept of "short order" cooking. The goal is to have everything done at once (should have started cooking the sausage first, then put the english muffin in the toaster just before cooking the egg, then when it's toasted, butter it while the egg and sausage finish cooking, so everything is hot and ready at the same time) - instead of mixing up the sausage (I don't know if you can call that "sausage" with just salt and pepper; where's the sage? The thyme? Garlic powder? Onion powder?) and PUTTING IT IN THE FRIDGE, cooking the egg and setting it aside (so it gets good and cold), then the sausage and setting it aside (to get to room temperature), before toasting the muffin... That McD's must be quite far away.

I use generic sausage patties(pick your favorite), and in less time it takes to make a pot of coffee, I can have 1 or more, req bigger pan, made with a side of eggs(over med). The price of my meal, less than 3$. Meanwhile the McDonald's meal costs 10$ or more and for less food. In the end, McDonald's breakfast is only for those that don't have a kitchen or are away from home.

Originally the American English muffin was invented by Samuel Bath Thomas when he immigrated to the USA in the late 1800s. It was first marketed to Americans as a "toaster crumpet" but named changed later. All info I could find said it was based/inspired by the crumpet
@orientalmoons7 ай бұрын
Nope, he may well have introduced it in the US but muffins existed in the UK for a long time before he came up with his version. There are recipes from the 1700s but they almost certainly existed before that in some form, since a lot of pain/griddle cooked breads could be made by folks who didn't have access to an oven. From what I know, the American style of English muffin has a very open texture whereas a UK one has a closer crumb. American style English muffins are definitely not equivalent to UK crumpets as some people think.
@alishahird8977 ай бұрын
@@orientalmoons I said the "American" english muffin. It was introduced in America after he immigrated. It was inspired by the crumpet..yes "inspired" not exactly a crumpet. He had to alter the components to make it work here, that's why it has a different consistency. Yes, that type of bread existed long before but the English muffin used in mcdonald's is different (you even said the American English muffin is different)

That was satisfyingly silly but demonstrated nicely that some so called fast foods can be made faster at home. Likely cheaper too, but then you’re paying McDonald’s to do the cleanup too. There are other fast foods that will take you longer like say a roast beef sandwich. Where exactly is the point of diminishing returns? What fast food item (s) take just as long to make at home as to buy? Not just sandwiches, but curries and other takeout? Basic fish and chips maybe?
