DIY Wooden Keyboard Wrist Rest for Keychron K4 Mechanical Keyboard
I decided to try out a mechanical keyboard with my new work from home desk setup and am really liking the Keychron K4 keyboard that I bought but it was lacking one small thing that I decided to make myself from some scrap wood : a wrist rest for better ergonomics. I am really happy with how this simple project turned out.

Nice! This is exactly how I make my wrist rest but without all this tools, just a bow saw and a sharp switchblade.

Great video! I just bought the V2 version of this keyboard for work and I plan on making a wrist rest as well, I'm made to already for my personal computer. I'm still newish with wood working and you taught me the use of the fine steel wool and the mineral spirits for cleaning. Didn't know I could do that, thank you!

i hate how so many companies are not including palmrests with their keyboard design these days... such as logitech.i use my keyboard in my lap due to my set up and an attached palm rest is absolutely essential.
@zwxyer
@zwxyer 4 ай бұрын
If anyone in the mechkey enthusiast community wants a wrist rest, they usually have a favourite they will use, and don't appreciate the extra cost a extra wrist wrest attaches. Also they buy various keebs so it's not really practical to get a seperate wrist rest for every keyboard. Also that wrist rest might not be best quality or material preference. Like imagine you had to buy mouse keyboard combo everytime, you wouldn't want that.
@acrock21
@acrock21 4 ай бұрын
@@zwxyer what i have is the logi k800 lesser of a wrest rest and more of a built in extension of the keyboard which acts like a wrest rest… never the less they dont have options for them anymore… its becoming more like an extinct dinosaur… it makes it easier to carry your keyboard (which i do A LOT) without unwanted mashing of buttons. Either way when i upgrade to my next board i guess ill have to build some hokey looking base and screw my 200 dollar keyboard to it… ffs I would keep my k800 but i need a board that will connect to 3 devices and i would like faster charging, more battery life… The other side to my complaint is that these companys are getting so damn cheap with everything even their charging cables are so freaking short they are almost useless… logi in particular use to be so generous in sending an extra extension… dead are the days of customer care.

Great video bud! Don't have any shellac on hand, do you think polyurethane will work well? Another question, it's been a few months so how's the finish now?
@CanCraneDoIt
@CanCraneDoIt 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I think you could use some spray poly, or regular poly if you like, I have seen people use spray poly the same as shellac with some light coats that dry pretty fast. The finish is holding up really well, there is one small spot that maybe didn't get as much finish as the rest that could be touched up

I am a year and 6 months into using it now, and with heavy use being my day job is on the computer all day and its been wearing with me nicely and haven't had any discomfort the only thing I have been doing it trying it with different keyboards. I think I might in another 6 months give it a light sand and maybe a fresh coat of finish
