Thanks a lot. This helped clear up a few items, it's great that you also gave the torque settings. Good practice where you fill with coolant after fitting the water pump. This also prevents damage to the water pump seal as it is now lubracted when turning the engine during the final TB alignment check.

Hi what would happen if the crank did a extra turn? I have a feeling someone that did it on mine took the belt of but did a extra turn on the crank pulley. Obviously the crank is pinned and cam is pinned also fuel is within its hole. Car seems to be running weird like a weird exhaust sound like a missfire I thought maybe it's the fuel injection pump that's not timed but it is not out as all pins line up. Was told the crank may of had a extra turn but wouldn't make a difference. Car runs ok but just weird noise like a fueling burbling noise exhaust or engine when driving

@mixerfistit5522

I found that you had to rotate the crank about 8 times to get the fuel pump with the 2 holes to line up (and when it did the the cam pin went in much further strangely) Also if iirc its neither of the 2 holes in the fuel pump that actually accept the pin; it's a hole further out to the edge on the same 'spoke' as one of the 2 holes. Roughly the 3 o'clock position I think

Great step by step video, I have the same engine in my connect van and my belt snapped how would I know the position of the cam to the crank as the cam rotate twice the the crank ?
@diydaly
@diydaly Жыл бұрын
👍 you can just set then to the marks, the crank rotates twice to one on the cam, so the cam would be 180 degrees out.. just simply set them to the timing marks and you'll be fine 👍

Further to my earlier comment. Hi, I would appreciate your advice please. I bought a Dayco kit online. Strangely the belt tensioner plastic bag was open. The others in the box were sealed. Is it possible to damage the tensioner before it is installed by removing the pin ? When I came to line up the hole with the new belt on, I had to turn the allen key clockwise to line it up. However the arrow stated to turn it anticlockwise. I am concerned this could really cause a problem. What do you think , please

Do you ever rotinely replace the cam shaft timing chain on the 16 valve Hdi engines? Apparently the recommended interval is 150k miles, same as the timing belt. Mine is at 162k miles, so the belt is over due, but the chain looks like a bigger job with another £100 for the kit. But i never heard of anyone changing the chain, or the chain breaking for that matter, so not sure if it is worth the expense?
@diydaly
@diydaly 9 ай бұрын
I’ve never routinely replaced the chain tbh, I’m not sure if I’ve ever replaced one ha
@OuterSpaceHoppa
@OuterSpaceHoppa 9 ай бұрын
@@diydaly Thanks for your reply! It looks to me like nobody changes them routinely, there aren't many videos on KZbin of timing chain replacement other than when there is other damage. There are loads of these engines run at over 150k miles, so I think I'm going to presume it isn't routinely done. I guess there is too much risk of snapping injector bolts, etc to justify the benifit against the low risk of chain failure? Thanks again.

Iv'e heard that if you use the 9ah or 12ah battery, it gives the gun more power. Hello, excellent video thank you. Would appreciate your help please. I have measured my new belt and it is exactly the same size as the old one with the same number of teeth. However there is no way I will be able to stretch the belt onto the tensioner. The pin on the tensioner is in the middle of the slot (I bought a brand new Dayco kit) and the tensioner wheel looks too close to the other replacement idler wheel. I am reluctant to take out the pin on the tensioner before it is all set up to give me some more slack. Thank you

Hello when you look at the fuel pump especially the locking tool there is quite a lot of play between the two knuckles sometimes one knuckle is closer to the hole sometimes in the middle so my question is do the knuckles have to be exact so that the locking tool is between the knuckles or it doesn't matter where the knuckles are as long as it is in that place

Do you ever renew the crank shaft bolt? Roughly what do you estimate is the torque after the angular tightening, 200Nm? Could this stretch the bolt and require it's replacement, or is the bolt really chunky? I ask as i had one snap after 18000 miles on a 1.9d passat, but i think it may have failed as the vw garage didn't do it up tight enough, as by their own admission they had no tool to lock the timing gears.

@diydaly 2 жыл бұрын
Hi , If you check my timing belt playlist there’s one for a mondeo 2.0 tdci.. on the one. You did has in got the large keyway gap on the crank pulley? Allowing quite a lot of float? It’s easy to get them a tooth out when that’s the case.. if so you might find there’s a pin hole in the flywheel to lock it off properly
@unionflag9609
@unionflag9609 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying.I did watch it and I did the same as you and every other video on the subject I watched. Yes there is a hole in the flywheel which I pinned up but what I have noticed since doing the job a few times is there's a bit of movement in the crank even when pinned up so you could be right in that it's a tooth out however, the noise did stop 30secs after I started It once but that was due to the tensioner not being located on the dowel and once correctly fitted the noise was back.Its all a bit of a mystery which I'd like more information on before pulling it apart again.

Such a brilliant video 👍 Is it a risky first time procedure? I've nerver done timing belts before but many other replacements like brakes, schock absorbers, coils etc. Whats the most tricky part in timing belt replacement? Thanks!
@diydaly
@diydaly Жыл бұрын
Thanks, cam belts are allways bit risky first time,, but if your fairly competent just take your time and there not bad to do really .. as long as you make sure everything timed up correctly and the tensioner etc are all tight you can't go too wrong .. always turn the engine over twice after replacement to double check the timing etc 👍

Thank you so much for your video. Everything went well with the change. But now I have some noise from the engine when I let off the gas and the car rolls. Seems to go away when I hit the gas pedal again. Do you have any idea what to check up? The cam belt is installed with the correct torques. Is there any specific torque for the tensioner of the serpentine belt?

Hi mate, can the water pump be changed here without the timing belt, or is it necessary to do both? I have a suspicion I'm being taken for a ride at the garage. My timing chain shouldn't be due for change but the water pump seal is leaking. Any advice appreciated! 👍
@diydaly

You can just fit a water pump without renewing the belt but the belt has to come off to do the job.. personally I would never fit an old belt unless it wasn’t very old at all .. just makes sense to renew it at the same time 👍

Wierd question probably, timed the cam and crank gear, but i ser that the fuel pump is not in Line with the hole that it should be alligned to! But the car ran perfectly so i dont think there is anything wrong! I will just mark the fuel pump and put the new belt on! Any ideas on why do? Thanks, lovely video

There not strictly a timed pump (for running reasons) so it may still run ok.. it’s more for balancing .. it should really be set right through! I’d say someone’s not done it correctly in the past

Great video. I'm a DIY mechanic and I'm well familiar with doing the timing belt on my car. Unfortunately I'm on my 2nd gates water pump in 2 years. I couldn't understand why the pumps keep failing until I realised that I've been adding tap water to the concentrated coolant. I'll never do that again !!

I saw the timing belt scheme are both the same, parts also are the same.1.5 has an internal little chain to time the two cam, except from this, is comparable with 1.6. What do you think? Thank you so much . Peugeot it's very optimistic and tolerant when it comes about intervals. Here in Italy I heard some people having trouble with timing kit belt well before 100k km, 60k miles. It's a gamble. Some are also scared by the squeaky sound coming from the crankshaft pulley especially when accelerating after idling. Dealers always say it's normal, but some driver broke the pulley with costly damages. I appreciate your work, have a good Saturday.
