The house I grew up in, my dad built a fireplace in the family room. He was learning at the time and didn’t know 100% what he was doing. He used chicken coop wire as the gripper to help affix the bricks he got for free from the job site he was working on at that time. Fast forward to 2020 and my brother sees our childhood home for sale. There still stands my Dads fireplace in the family room. 😍😭 They remodeled the rest of the house and doesn’t look anything like when we were kids. But my Dads fireplace is still standing 😍

Great job! Interior designer here, I have to agree with the rest of the comments, that corner will deffinetly leave it’s mark, also would paint the wall in a warm gray rather than a cool tone one, it’s sort of off putting next to the beautiful brick and wood stain ❤

Ya for real. At first I was like what are people talking about? and then I saw how far it juts out into the door jamb. Or they can get some of those baby corner bumpers to put on there, but it would make it look worse than just cutting it off square instead.

On tip the wood below the mortar needs to be moistened slightly for the mortar to stick. Too wet on your mix it will slump too much. Everything is a learning curve and you’re always trying new things. Love your bravery. When you back butter be more liberal with the amount of mortar on the brick. Bamboo is a grass so danish oil won’t work on it. I agree with the comments the one corner needs to be cut back or rounded off to prevent injuries

You did an amazing job on the brick work!! The top is a little chunky compared to the fireplace size and the left side sticking past the doorway seems like a midnight hip buster. That turned out so beautifully! 🤎🧡 Just a few questions: Why is there a sharp corner protruding out? Was your angel off or you just didn't want to cut that corner flush? Is there a gap somewhere behind the unit for heat to escape? Do you even need to cut an area for the heat to circulate? I thought in your arch fireplace you left a gap...🤔

In the future and to anyone watching and maybe doing something similar: Ideally you should use cement board for tiling onto! Plywood sucks too much moisture too quickly out of mortar to get a correct adhesion of the tiles. It will also make it more likely to crack as wood warps with moisture and heat more than the cement board would. But otherwise, amazing job, Becky!
