When these artists first come out, all the producers want to produce for them and so they have the top pics and also their record deal loan or advance (the major thing drawing the producers) pays for these producers. When the money dries up and they weren't the ones selecting the beats and they don't have that skill and don't know or aren't interested in learning that skill, they fall off so hard.

There's always been dumb, lame generic hip hop and good, original hip hop both in the mainstream and in the underground scene. That's why I pointed out that there's basically no female rappers who do "mumble rap".

I just don't like "music used to be so much better back then" when every generation says this and it's just not the case. All the garbage stuff gets forgotten and the classics remain. This and just nostalgia in general creates a warped perception of the quality of previous periods in hip hop and music in general.
