I have alot of respect of DJ Shadow. Also what he and James Lavelle did with Psyence Fiction is superb. One of the most underrated Trip Hop albums of all time

Surprised he hasn't talked about UNKLE yet given the DJ Shadow connections on their debut. That said, the project has become a little more indie rock-ish overall. Not exactly an artist that would be out of his jurisdiction however.

Don't think I'll come back to the second disc too often but I really enjoyed the first one. don't wanna have to explain the album cover to my mates though -_-

I generally don't care much for hip-hop tracks, but I really liked the sound of Urgent, Important, Must Read. It's quite the banger, though I'd imagine there's more tracks on the album that sound like it (have only listened to a select few tracks, most of them singles). Not gonna lie, that line talking about machines taking over and saying they're the first to say it did unnerve me slightly.

I’ve tried with Shadows later albums (post private press) but minus a few tracks here n there, I can’t feel the same excitement as I did when I listened to Entroducing , Preemptive Strike, Unkle colabs . I’m not sure if that’s a result that “trip hop/scratch n sample” music was fresh to me then, or if the newer music isn’t as good, to me. Also, I’m a 90s kid , and totally came up in the Wu-Tang, Qtip, E40, Tribe, era ; but them on Shadows tracks sounds a bit corny to me.

The synths on this album get hella grotesque sometimes. Beauty, Power, Motion, Life, Work, Chaos, Law specifically. It's like he was trying to break the tempo, but ended up so lopsided.

Still, political and especially environmental topics tend to sadden me anyways. It's enough that Hoo Hoo Ha Ha gives me a slight sense of dread. EDIT: For the record it's bcs Monsters Exist in general is politics-themed, The Raid is sad, The End is Nigh just straight up says we're fucked with the title and so on. Out of context the track is silly but in-context it's like a moment of false hope in a dark time.
