Dj Tutorial, Riding the pitches, Using 2 pitches in the mix.

The idea here is to use the two pitches on the two turn tables as aposed to using the platter or jog wheel to slow/ speed the track.
Using this method is the same as using the pitch and the jog wheel on just the one cdj/ vinyl turntable.

back when i had my belt driven Numarks, i used a combination pitch control and spinning/slowing down the platter, but i mainly used the pitch control. with my Technics, i only use the pitch control. that's how i taught myself, because i had no one to teach me anything about DJ-ing, so i figured this would be a good technique.

Hi Jonathon, I find these videos entertaining, i've been mixing for over 10 years with vinyl but i've just ordered a cdj 800 to get used to cd mixing and your tutorials on the cd decks are helpful. Regarding just using the pitches, i know one guy who does it with cdjs and i could see how it might work well but as regards vinyl, i've always used both hands to manipulate both the platter and the pitch and find it much quicker that way.

amazing video. When i DJ at parties sometimes i do ride the pitch on the main track to throw them off right before i make an announcement to make them stare at me or get there attention

I would just added when would be common "to use riding the pitch". Mostly when you mix vinyls with pitch close to zero. But I do mix sometimes without touching the platter. Its just a preference depend how close I am with a beat :) Btw Jonathan you're a good man and not many like you on this world. I like your explanation. Keep doing your work.

I'm an idiot .... that makes total sense .... i starting today. I got taught years ago by a hip hop scratch dj who always touched the wheel so that is how i did it too. about 4 years ago when I saw Andy C I noticed he was riding the pitch (only one table thou() and I tried for about 10 mins but couldn't fight my bodies temptation to touch the record. But, I starting today.....

@mixdj5000 There is CD mode and Vinyl mode. I think CD mode keeps the CD skipping in that one place when you pause it. Vinyl mode stops the track dead in that position.

i find using the ''pitch bend'' buttons on some cdj's very usefull..... i use them all the time and dnt touch the jog wheel's.........

Hi J. DJ Goose here again. Your doing a great job teaching, I would but I aint got much time myself but keep up the good work, you and Brian. I have a question, Some CDJs have jog wheels as you know just for the scracth mixers and not really neeeded for mixing as you just need to use the pitch control to beat match (as you know) so why not teach our wannabe DJs to ONLY buy CDJs with jog wheels if they only wanna scratch coz they aint really needed if you just beat mix!

the point of this one is not to take it too litteral, you would only adjust the pitch on the playing deck to compensate for the sub deck being too far off pitch, ie if your vocals coming in sound like mickey mouse then you can speed up the master pitch to then bring down the secondary split.

the only real use for this is with vynil, to avoid vibrations, or to bring it back in line more smoothly!

Needs practice , and knowing the tracks a little may help you to concentrate at one of the toons in the mix when you're riding the pitch

i did listen to the coment at the end of your video, it does not matter the way you look, it matters the way you mix as long as is a smooth transicion,either you are using the pitch control or the jog well or anything else , fuck everybody.

A piece of advice for everyone... if you are new at DJing ,,, start doing things the right way or best way possible. Don't build bad habits . And for those who already have them ... break them! If you are not where you want to be you will stay at that point until you work hard to change a few things. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different. result.
