I "upgraded" ... I've been using the Air 2 and Air 2S. Regarding the Air 2S, you can't shut off the downward sensors to land in hand, and I don't want to put tape over the sensors. Switching to sport mode doesn't fix the problem. Now we have to mess with focus on the Air 2S, or hope for the best. The focus should be fixed like Air 2, and most other drones. Air 2S is much noisier than Air 2--loud even at 1000 feet, very noticeable when the brakes are applied, during a climb, etc.. Everyone knows there's a drone in the air but that wasn't the case with Air 2. The Air 2 is cheaper and flies longer. So it's not as simple as many of these videos suggest, but the video quality is why I upgraded and it is noticeably better in some situations.

When you start your drone the propellers should be extended, not on the same side. Otherwise you get vibration of the entire drone and it'll break in some time. Also learn to launch and catch in hand rather than starting from such dusty surface.

I upgraded after my air 2 was replaced once under my insurance. I went under a large bridge which cause my air 2 to instantly go into return home when it lost signal...it started to climb to my Return home settings, and flew right into the bottom side of the bridge and crashed into a river. This one now has top sensors to avoid that in the future.

Thank you, this is the honest comparison I needed to see this. I’ve had my MA2 for about 9 months and haven’t been disappointed. If I could afford it (and the resale for the MA2 Wasn’t so damn low now) I would consider the upgrade, but I have to remind myself that the best drone/camera is the one you have. Video quality is way better on the Air 2S, it also doesn't drop the gimbal while flying in sport mode. Better tech in the Air 2S too BUT for the few differences, it's not really worth it

Thank you very much for your review, Alex. The big advantage of the A2S is its 1-inch Camera Sensor, which captures a lot more image and color details than its predecessor the MA2. Agree with you the V2 Googles are a must, but according to my reliable sources will get compatible with the A2S in the release of its 3d software upgrade (2 releases from now). I'm waiting patiently for that day. In the meantime love flying the A2S and saved 30%, not having to buy the combo because the batteries are identical to my MA2. Also, I'm thinking of delaying buying the Mavic 3, until its Platinum or M3Pro versions become available, and the Remote ID issues get settled. I'm subbing! Greetings from Montreal, Canada.

I do not have either drone yet and am trying to get an idea if it is worth the (now) $500 price difference between the 2 and 2S, the prices are now (for combos) $800 and $1300, do you think the 2S is worth it if you don't already have the 2? VIRTUALLY NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PICTURES AND VIDEO JUST AS I SUSPECTED!! And in some pictures and videos I actually felt the 2S looked better.. THE MAVIC AIR 2 IS THE BEST VALUE IN DRONES BY FAR! Captain drone did a review about the 2S and stated it perfectly as a professional photographer. He always seems to know what matters and knows what doesn't. HE SAID THE 2S IS NOTHING BUT A CASH GRAB!! OVERPRICED CASH GRAB!! Well it is better specifications It doesn't translate into being worth it to spend that extra money. Especially when you have social media involved. When you're not comparing these side by side as they've proven with other previous drones. NOBODY CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE!! FACT . Even when they compare the original mavic pro to the phantom 4 pro and other drones. NOT SIDE BY SIDE AT THE SAME TIME. NOT EVEN THE MOST PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS COULD TELL THE DIFFERENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA!! They had to pick which one was which and they were wrong like 90% of the time!! Yeah if you want to go side by side and pick out little nuances and things zoom in and out. There's a small slight difference BUT NOBODY WATCHES VIDEOS LIKE THAT!! The quality on these drones and even the half inch sensors are so fantastic they're more than good enough to do professional work, contracting and other things!! We've come to a point in technology where you have to pay a lot of money for a tiny bit of difference that doesn't really mean anything.. It only means something to the person who is obsessed with specifications and the smallest little differences that don't make a difference. The most important thing is what you do pre and post production.. and with the air 2 You even have an unbelievable HDR that is so good sometimes you don't even need to color grade in post!! Has a little bit better battery life.. And no one really cares about the distance anymore!! Because the battery runs out before you can reach the total miles the transmission can go!! Some people say has less interference when you have a drone that has a longer distance!! THIS IS SHOWN REALLY NOT TO BE TRUE!! There is a slight difference in interference but not much. THE REASON WHY? Because of FCC regulations!! In order for you to go through buildings, objects, trees YOU NEED HIGH POWER AND BIG ANTENNAS!! THE FCC DOES NOT ALLOW THAT TYPE OF POWER IN THESE ELECTRONICS!! And you need big antennas! So while it is cool DJI keeps increasing the distance. It really doesn't translate or is even noticeable because of the lack of battery life.. I'm going through buildings and things is always going to be a problem. Bottom line is just like phones where this not much difference between cameras and not much recent upgrade anymore because the technology has hit a wall only making minor subtle differences. SAME THING WITH DRONES!! They will keep reaching and reaching and reaching trying to steal your money holding back giving you little by little BUT THE DIFFERENCES FACT AND ON OPINION IS REALLY NOT WORTH IT. Considering everything I just mentioned, social media compressionand what people will actually notice and perceive.. The 2S is by far the best value you can get!! I see no reason to upgrade whatsoever NOT EVEN TO THE MAVIC 3 WHICH IS RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED.. Doing contract work, weddings, functions and anything long as you know what you're doing the 2S IS STILL THE GREATEST VALUE AND STEAL IN THE DRONE INDUSTRY! ;)

after having an air2s since launch, its way different drone then my old mavic air 2, after flying the two even in windy conditions the air2s is heavier so wind does not effect it at all i live near open ocean and fly all year round. I sold my mavic air 2 because since flying the air2s i feel the difference. Nornmal speed mode is way faster then mavic, image on your phone is way clearer, signal is 100% since its got 4 aerials, then the mavic, the upgrade bits are only a few bits ...but when added together it is way by far better then mavic so of your looking for a prof. type drone that holds its own in windy conditions all year round never drops signal, faster and really solid in the air that extra weight is an advantage. Its ok doing videos in the middle of summer in the med. but if you fly all year around in the north part of europe Air2s is one of the best drones at the moment on the market. Ps it also has ADSB in europe!!.

One more thing to mention to potantial advanced user: Air2s has no SDK support yet, and probably there won't be any. That means, no connectivity to apps like Litchi, Drone Link. MA2 has SDK (after 9 months), it doesn't support waypoints but still it works (waypoints are added by drone link). We think it's a marketing decision - making "Mini/Air" without the "Mavic" word just an amateur drone. Still great, but a bit limited compared to the older one (Air 1 had full SDK including waypoints).

Thanks for your point Atomic77. But, as you say, this is a mid lvl drone, the 99% of the user won't need to use other apps. I you are and advance droner, you should buy, as you say, something in the pro line.

I would say the picture quality comparison side by side Air 2 is much clear 👌🏽 Air 2s is little blur? But 1inch for low light capture will be excellent, all in all Air 2s not worth it. Dji should have added hasselblad Camera and side sensors, I think maybe they will do on Air 3. But all in all Air 2 is good for low light Air 2s.

Hi Scott, if you want to look for a drone: if you need speed and freestyle go for the FPV, other than that, the air2s is the best drone for the price now. I hope it helps :)

If you have an Air 2 with smart controller already as I do I believe it's best to wait until either the Air 3 comes out, the next generation smart controller that can support Ocusync 3 or both. I don't see the point in upgrading unless you either don't care about spending the money or don't care about smart controller/Ocusync 3.

that why i still use mavic air 2.no point to change for mavic air 2s.if you want to upgrade better for mavic 2 pro or mavic 3 coming soon..but if you from mini or mini 2 yes it good for you to get mavic air 2s

For a small time film maker like me it is worth upgrading for that flat picture profile--d log, 10 bit color depth , n 1 inch sensor .

Very seldom do I post on these videos, however there are some things that need to be said about your review. First, I appreciate you taking the time to do a review between the Mavic Air 2 and the MA 2S. Not many have been done and it's always nice to see that occur. However, your comparison was not totally fair...as in apples to apples. You cannot compare the MA2 Dcinelike to the MA2S D-log for example. D-cinelike is a digital cosmetic enhancement for the video where D-Log is a higher bit rate video that allows far greater latitude in post editing which is crucial for butter smooth true color video. The 1" sensor vs the 1/2" sensor is an incredibly huge factor when someone is considering whether it's worth it to upgrade. You mentioned that the MA2 'Splits pixels' etc to get the 48MP where the MA2S is pure 20MP. I wished that you had delved into that deeper as the advantages of pure 20MP of the MA2S vs the 48MP(enhanced) of the MA2 is another critical deciding factor when choosing between the two drones. Frankly for the vast majority of the professional drone community, these factors alone will have a huge affect on the decision of whether to upgrade. The fact that the MA2S doesn't have an interface to the FPV goggles is, quite frankly, not worth mentioning other than in passing and should never be a reason to not upgrade to the MA2S. Having said this, I do appreciate that you made this video, however I'm disappointed in the false representation or total lack of representation of the critical differences between the two drones.
