Outstanding, I’ve had the DJI FPV drone for a year and originally used the standard controller and was unimpressed. As soon as I switched to the motion controller, it was like moving from a bus to a Ferrari. Additionally, I’ve found that if I bring along a portable camping chair, it’s more like actually flying (you have more control) and you are less susceptible to dizziness. Thank you for posting!

I agree. Most of the FPV reviewers compare the Avata to regular whoop drones and don't address the additional features. I can see how Mavic pilots could combine Avata footage with Mavic footage and have stunning videos. I don't have time or want to build, tune and trouble shoot an FPV drone. But with this drone I could enjoy FPV and learn to fly in Manual mode at my own pace plus have some awesome features and create stunning videos.

The people who hate it are FPV enthusiasts who dislike the idea of FPV without "conventional" FPV controls. Like yes, with hundreds of hours an FPV controller can do way more, nobody is claiming this can do the same, but this is available to 99.9% of people within 2 minutes of testing it, 0 sim required. They can't get over that hump that maybe what's best for them isn't what's best for everybody else.

I've been doing my videos with the Motion Controller. It is absolutely fun to fly with. I can hit gaps just fine. Shawn Oz made a comment on a show that I think is absolutely true. He said if he's watching an FPV video and they do a flip he stops watching. That is probably true for a high percentage of the audience. People don't want to watch videos to get dizzy. Nothing wrong with it and its cool but that has a limited audience. As you said, the MC and head tracking give the 90% of the people enough of that FPV experience w/o having to learn Manual mode. There is a new MC coming supposedly. If they add buttons to do flips right/left and then power loop button, it will virtually eliminate the need for the regular RC. Keep in mind our best pilots flying the best Fighter Jets all fly with ......... a Joystick. If they added a front sensor for ground detection, they could add a dive button to the MC. It would end up looking smoother than any manual mode dive in all likelihood. The Wii U really started the MC craze and worked well for many games. All the VR goggles coming with MC. A motion controller for flying is the future and it will only get better. The MC is a good way to catch all those kids playing with Oculus to come over and fly drones with them. A whole new target audience sucked into drones :).

Nice Video. I learned FPV the hard way about 5 years ago. Probably over $5000 in repairs in the first two years. I just got the Avata for Christmas. Excited that I will be able to let my family members actually fly it verses just watch while I fly my old drones in manual. There are lots of cool features that should make video easier and safer indoors for me. The auto braking was hard to get used to at first in normal or sport mode. No sense of floating or falling - which I do miss, but this definitely allows beginners to experience the thrill of FPV. I can't wait to throw it in manual mode after I connect my other FPV air controller. Head tracking looks pretty awesome. A little nervous to try head tracking in manual though.

Thank you for such an honest and true review without any preconceptions or biases. Excellent work. I bought the DJI FPV combo when it came out, but I am far too intimidated by it to really take it out and fly it. Sure I did a little hover and move around test. but strictly by line of site (LOS) not wearing the goggles. Now I have purchased the AVATA package with the FPV goggles V2 option. So it's great to have 2 set of goggles so I can now share flight experience. An having the controller V2 is a plus as well. The AVATA is much less intimidating and actually fun to fly. Should make the transition the the FPV unit much easier. I actually just recently started FPV with a little iFlight Alpha A85. By the 4th time around my small property, I was getting the hang of things, and stopped running into the ground so often. LOL So now I'm anxious to fly the AVATA whenever this bad weather clears. Thanks for that. One of the best videos I've seen about the Avata. From what I understand then, the motion controller controls the movement of the craft, while the head tracking justs add gimbal control to it (tile via the gimbal itself and pan by the craft)??? As for full manual control sometime this type of flying distracts from the content of the piece and the viewer just concentrates on the movement not the subject, so I think for the majority of film makers, this is al they'll need.

I fly acro and I love it, I also love this too, it allows for a more relaxed way of flying and if you're good enough you can get in some tight manoeuvres. Rather than go full acro, you can use this MC to get some really smooth cinematic shots and conserve the battery for more flight time. It really does have its purpose when capturing some cinematics and you can get more time behind the stick. If you want to add some proper acro in, then you go for the RC. They both have their purpose and to me they're both equally as fun.

@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын

@@airadaimagery692 I think most people are upset that DJI is releasing a drone that by default of packages included, none of them can use the manual mode. So basically DJI is selling a product that cannot be fully used without buying an additional product not included (or even in stock) with the package. Half of the shots that were put in the product launch trailer for the Avata cannot be obtained without using manual mode, which you cannot use without the FPV controller. People are also likely upset because if you know for a fact that you DON'T want the motion controller and have no interest in ever using it, that is a fair thought to have and they should be given the option to buy the Avata package with the FPV controller instead of the motion controller.

NOT a fan of motion controller but admit you did and showed its ability. Like you say what you do with it that counts! Having said that, I like DJI product but hate their marketing. It seems they have activated their foot soldiers to sell where they couldn't sell with the first FPV drone version. The fact that they did not include the remote controller as an option proves what I stated. Very sad. I hope consumer community realize this and take action! After all we work hard for the money we make and have choice to go along or not. This should not take away excellent presentation you have in this video. Well done 👍

for thse shots, which look fantastic btw, did you have the camera settings set to full manual or did you set exposure to auto? seems a bit intimidating to me to lock the exposure when flying fpv especially in contrasting conditions like trying to set exposure for the sunlit mountains in the background but then the ground which is in shadow (that you need to see!) is super dark. cheers!
