Finally somebody who still sees advantages in the Phantom! Really cool video! I just got the Phantom and I'm quiet happpy:) And actually here in Germany you can't get the Mavic anywhere except on the official dji strore but I don't really like online shopping:/

Good job. Thanks. Bought the Phantom 4 in December and have been thinking about trading it in for the Mavic. Have seen lots of people posting videos of issues with the Mavic's gimbel. Like Mavic's less-noticeability factor. You've convinced me to stay with the Phantom 4 as a first drone as I'm sure we'll bang it up a bit. It just feels sturdy.

you can use an ipad mint. it will fit. there are others on youtube who show it being done on the controller no rigging needed.

Some very good points about the hand catch on the phantom and that being tough on the mavic. Might be the difference for me along with flying waypoints, etc. Great review.

Great job and unbiased....I am waiting on my Mavic Pro and you make good points on the P4...I just prefer the mavic because of portability,battery life,range,and tripod mode..The FOV isnt a big concern for me.If I need a wider shot I will just backup some :)

Thanks - unbiased and factual stuff. I have a P4 (not so impressed with the video footage... and the "missing" frames when combining the longer (4Gb) files on the sd card is really a pity). I'm very tempted to buy a Mavic - would it be possible to do a real good video comparison between the two??

Hmmm....maybe your camera is defective in some way. I will take both out flying to the same place and get some comparison video. These tiny sensors can only do so much. My take is that if you are close in the Mavic may do better because of the tap to focus. But we'll see .

For me, Mavic is a perfect replacement for the much bigger Phantom 4. The whole point of a drone is for it to be portable and be able to have it with you all of the time, being able to send it into the air at any time. Going outside and traveling about with a large and heavy backpack on your back carrying the Phantom 4 is just too troublesome, at least for me.

I understand the pull of the portability. Definitely strong - experiencing it myself. But we already have some photogs complaining about the lack of good 60fps, etc. - and/or the work required to tap to focus. So if portability isn't a problem it just may be that a P4 is better (some people do have a lot of room and don't hike everywhere through the city, etc. w/ their models)

Perfect example of what the video says - people buy these for different reasons. Not everyone shares their vid and pics or sells it - and the Mavic Pro may be "good enough" for those consumers - the important thing is that people understand where they are making a compromise, etc.

I agree - especially for close-in shots. The Mavic Pro is almost perfect as a "real estate" machine. As a more general landscape machine I do like my P4 a bit better (slightly better in wind, better glass, etc.).

Dude the phantom is not that large ----the 4 blows it away for the price And its heavier to not blow away in the wind of course it's larger and it's not big at all compared to other drones Goes further and and takes better pictures and is more stable there is no comparison

I agree - for those who are more "photog" than fun or stealth or travel. But I know people who want to fly it around in sport mode, take it with them when traveling....and snap a pic or video here and there (non-pro and non-prosumer). For those customers, the Mavic maybe calling their name.

I am a pretty serious photographer, and plan to use the Mavic for photography and videography. It seems it's true that, in terms of the image itself, the P4 is a bit better than the Mavic. But for me, since I do most of my photography while hiking, the extreme portability of the Mavic is an overwhelming advantage over the P4. With all my other camera gear, the size of the P4 is a deal killer. Based on what I've seen, I'm pretty convinced the Mavic's photo / video quality will be acceptable, even if it's not quite as good as the P4. The image on the P4 is marginally better than the Mavic, but the portability of the Mavic is WAY better than the P4. So I'm a good example of a serious photographer that will be better served by the Mavic. I will say though that I'm pretty disappointed about having to stick to 30 fps and less on the Mavic. I have to say this really made me second guess my decision to go for the Mavic. But I keep coming back to the fact that I would simply never use the P4 because it's just not portable enough for me.

No doubt that the size is MAJOR. The more I use the Mavic, the more I appreciate being stealthy. Also, DJI is working on the camera through software - and a pro can always end up pulling out some better shots. The important thing is to make an informed decision and you are doing just that.

Hi. Thanks for your video. I would like to comment. I think your video it´s clearly not objective, it´s just an oppinión, not a description of facts. For example you didn´t mentioned that the Mavic even though with a smaller battery last as long as the P4 Or that the range is 7KM also didn´t mentioned the more precise track focus it has against the P4 or the more intelligent modes it has. Also didn´t mentioned how you can charge the battery and the controller at the same time They might not be crucial, of course but if you add all that to the portability I think there´s no competition. If we talk about video and photography? To be honest neither would be a really professional purpose like a high-end tv commercial or a movie etc... So at the end image quality is very similar and both are OK. Btw I have seen to videos already where the mavic literally crashes against a wall and another against a tree and it doesn´t fall it flights back up, maybe due to the lightweight. Anyways. As usual it´s a matter of opinion.

I had a segment about the battery but the video was getting too long. Both of them last 20 minutes easily (and longer), so I assume buyers know this. Yes, a lot of it is opinion but things that others should consider when comparing and buying. Buyers have different reasons and I said that clearly. I just think the pro or semi-pro photog should keep their P4 (maybe in addition to Mavic - always good to have backup anyway).
