I’m glad to see someone else get excited about 360 photos. I’ve been doing this a lot with all of my DJI drones. I just got my Mini 4 Pro last week and I didn't even know this was possible. I already have a Quest 3 and I've seen some lovely 3D Pano's .... If you're high up the Stereoscopic 3D doesn't matter so much, but ... ... man, can you imagine if DJI ever manage to squeeze stereoscopic cameras onto a sub 250 drone? The FPV and Panos would be so amazing I'd prolly just give them my wallet. LOL

I have just finished watching this excellent video numerous times. Thank you for preparing this. I am trying to prepare a 360 panorama shot with my Mini 3 Pro from the 26 .DNG images. I have stitched the images with Panorama Stitcher. It looks fine in Spherical Viewer. I then take the stitched .jpg into Affinity Photo and proceed through the steps to resize the canvas to give a 2:1 aspect as required for a 360 video. I fill in the necessary sky in Affinity Photo and I then export the image as a .jpg from Affinity Photo. I then take this .jpg image into ExifFixer to replace the incorrect meta data. The .jpg produced by ExifFixer looks fine in Spherical Viewer. However, when. I create a library in Final Cut Pro and import the image, Final Cut Pro immediately crashes with a long crash report. This happens only when I try to stick together a spherical image from .dng files and put the resulting .jpg into FCP. If I use the spherical .jpg image stitched by the Mini 3 Pro it works fine in FCP and does not price a crash. However, I would prefer the additional image quality available from the stitched .dng created panorama. Can anyone please help me understand why this stitched .jpg from the above process always crashes FCP? Thank you.

Like, I used to never much attention to this feature until recently. Mostly because I thought the only way you could view them was on your phone in the DJI app, Once I discovered you could share them online via Facebook to non techie friends, I saw the value. And now after watching your video, I see there are even more options on what you can do with these files. Great content Stewart, and thanks for sharing.

Hi Stewart, as always: your tutorials are just as great as your drone pictures and videos. 360 sphere panoramas from DJI Mini 3 Pro however are much easier to edit in 2023 than a year ago. (No more filling out holes in the sky etc.). But there's one thing that doesn't seem to work: At 2:50 min. of your video you suggest importing the equirectangular 360 image as a JPEG into Insta360 Studio to edit it as a movie , transforming it into "Little Planets" etc.. Have YOU tried this lately? Well, it doesn't work with me. Not with the latest software and not on my M1 MacBook Pro. Insta 360 Studio doesn't seem to like DJI Mini 3 Pro Sphere equirectangulars. Do you or anyone else out there have an idea how to solve this?
@gilbertguerin90802 жыл бұрын
Hi Stewart, Nice video. Have been doing this here since P3P. With Mini 3, you may want to let Dji Fly take automatically the pano, then manually at the same spot take manually the necessary missing pics with the camera facing up in vertical mode. On PC, then use Kolor Autopano Giga (officially discontinued by GoPro since they bought the company few years ago - what a stupid move). You can still find some version of the software even if not officially sold or maintained. Often results are still better with the last official published version than with the latest ptgui. No need then to reconstruct the sky.

@@DroneFilmGuide Dji will most probably add the missing row in a future update, if they are not too lazy. That should be fairly easy... On previous generations Litchi has also some improved tricks to take 360 Panos, making the process a lot more customizable if need be.

@@gilbertguerin9080 Another great tip. I'll add FSPViewer to the list in the pinned comment at the top.

+1 on Autopano. The real problem is NOT the missing row (although it is too). It is that the automated pano images are in 12MP rather than 48MP. The final pano has much better resolution when shooting ALL images manually in 48MP. AFAIK, Eisenegger here on YT works on a software to automatize the process with a Mini 3 Pro, he already does this for other DJI drones using the DJI SDK. Stitching the sky with a zenith is non trivial if there isn't enough structure. Autopano Giga and structured stitching with stitching metadata is highly recommended.
@gilbertguerin90802 жыл бұрын
@@falklumo That is where the last row in vertical portrait mode gets the job done (usually). For automating it needs the sdk as you said, ant it will take most probably one year from the drone launch date if previous trend is respected. Litchi is then a very good solution to play with panorama as there are many options to customize how it is taken, hopefully here also with the 48 Mp resolution. An exhilarating functionality is also the planning of flight with waypoint, camera orientation, poi... It opens so much fun and creative opportunity. Dronelink is also so good for preflight visualization as it is possible from planning to see the final result and then reframe accordingly before even being in air. For Panos, it is possible to plan the path and automatize the shoots at different places of the automated flight. These drones are then so capable since p3p.

I can't seem to find a clear answer to this question: When you take a 180 degree panorama, or the wide angle shot from the dji mini 3 (or mini 3 pro), does the software within the drone or controller stitch the photos together, or do you need some external software to do it? When online was demanding the files to be html5 I gave up, I see the tech aspect has changed and it appears the files can now be in other formats. Thanks! Anything that shoots raw. So Mini 2 upwards really. Smaller sensor doesn't really matter for aerial photos unless you're really planning on shooting a lot in low light. Otherwise just slow the shutter down a bit. The AEB mode is fantastic, as are the panorama modes. Plus you can save the individual raw pano photos and take them into Lightroom for a better outcome. The more expensive drones will give you 20mp photos vs 12mp photos so that's up to you if that's important but otherwise you're paying mainly for video features and better drone performance. From a photo-only perspective the differences are not as stark.

I have been playing with 360 degree panoramas since about 1999, using a coolpix 950, and later a coolpix 4500, then PTGui was free, and I had quite a few very low resolution panos on my website, displayed using a Java Applet (does anyone remember what that is?). Later I did two or three panos with a DSLR and an 8mm fisheye, but found the process too cumbersume for my hobbyist taste. Using a dji Mini 2 and an Air 2s I have taken quite a few panaramas and published them on Google Maps, mostly the automated jpeg version. I did a few DNG panos using Hugin, also replacing the sky in a convoluted process, that often was not completely successful using Photoshop. I was very intrigued by the fact that the dji mini can tilt the camera upwards, and I assume in vertical mode it can completely cover the Zenith, so this video was very useful to me, as I have now learned that his feature is not available yet. I just downloaded Autopana Giga and will have a try at the DNGs I have been capturing all the time while producing just the jpg output. I would also wish that the panorama images would not always start with new numbers, as that messes with my regular lightroom import method. One panorama with cloudy weather it didn't manage to place the clouds around zenith so it only imported 27/35 and the other panorama with a sunset in it, it managed to import all 35 images but it still left small black stretches at 10 and 14 o'clock if you know what I mean. So I guess the repair with Affinity photo will still be required in most cases, it's just how extensive the repairs are that's the question.

Will the Insta360 desktop app work for this Stewart?

Actually, this was one of the features I tried first and now I fell in love with tiny planets. 🌍😍 However, I didn't try VR yet. This is still in my to do list.

Hey, have you had a chance to put these into VR? I'm looking at doing something similar where capture 360 photos with my mini pro 3 and put them in a VR app
@schulzroy Жыл бұрын
@@craigondrak Well, not true VR because I don't have VR googles. But I have an app now on macOS called Spherical Viewer. It lets you view 360 panoramas fullscreen and turn around in them like if you point a camera in every direction you like. With my big screen it is amazing as if you are at the scene looking around.

Off topic, but are you guys going to do a video on the Mavic 3 update? I’ve been waiting to hear your take on the 7x camera now! 😂
@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын
Sure thing! It's on the to-do list. Want to get it up to these mountains in Scotland and do just that, use that 7x camera now it's got some proper control.

I've been trying to follow this through with my own file but I get stuck at the 5:14 point of the video. After doing the first inpaint and deselecting the selection tool I can't seem to get back to the scrollable pano to go to the second part of the zenith. All I have is just the current section of the sky. What am I missing? Edit: Come out of the Live projection!
@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын
Good point. Press Control+Command+P and it will give you the navigation cursor back to scroll to the second part of the zenith. Alternatively, go to Layer > Live Projection > Edit Live Projection.

My drone just arrived and I still could not try it because it is constantly raining in Isle of Skye. 😭😭Till I just watch your videos. Absolutely enjoying btw. 🥰🥰🥰

Fantastic! We got lucky with the weather in Skye!

@@DroneFilmGuide Yeah I watched all your latest videos and surprised. I mean we have nice weather sometimes but I'm working most of those sunny days. 🤣🤣🤣 Anyway I just wanted to ask you with the fixed F1.8 on the mini 3 if I recording 25fps and double the shutter speed to be 50 what I can do if the weather one day gonna be nice and sunny? Just put on an ND filter or how far can I go with the s.s. ?
@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын
@@PufiesNyufikalandjai Good question. We have NDs coming soon but the max ND is 64. I suspect that might not be enough to get the shutter down to 1/50th if you have a scene where direct sunlight is hitting something white for example. The previous drones were normally f/2.8 and they definitely required the full 'power' of the ND64 on a sunny day. Worst case though, 1/80 or 1/100 is still an improvement on 1/4000th.

@@DroneFilmGuide Thank you for your help. I have an ND filters now just need some sunny days to try it. And I'll see how it looks like with those set ups. Thanks again.👋👋
