DJI Mini 4 Pro Compass Problems Solved? Try This...

Are you experiencing DJI Mini 4 Pro compass problems? Is the compass jittery and act like it's got some sort of anxiety? Well, so do we and we may have the solution you're looking for.
A couple weeks ago, we were informed of a problem the DJI Mini 4 Pro compass was exhibiting that we totally missed. You may be surprised to learn that sometimes I miss stuff. Well, I totally missed this jittery compass problem until it was pointed out and now I simply can't unsee it. We posted a follow up video in an effort to find a solution for the compass jitters and were inundated with responses.
In this video, we discuss the "potential solutions" provided by our loyal viewers and amazingly, I share my personal solution to this whole issue. You may be shocked to see how simple this is...

Not always for a new software version - new problems. We see some of them today :) I checked mini4pro without update: DJI Fly ver. 1.12.8, drone software 01.00.0300, RC2 software 02.00.0500 - in the operator position, the compass vibrates, but in the drone position it is OK :) Conclusion - fly in the drone position :) P.S. Hyperlapses work :)

Awesome info, buddy. I did like the 1.12.8 update and the .300 firmware and never noticed any issues with that version. I like flying with the controller in the center though because I like to pretend I’m the center of the universe. Hahaha

Good video. As far as I can tell, this compass problem is with the RC-2. I use the rc-n1c. with my phone. I have the newest controller firmware and my compass is steady. Thanks,,,Bill

Yea it’s things like this that make me wanna get the RCN2 controller as a spare just in case. The RCN1 for the Mini 2 drones we have works perfectly.

Thanks for clearing that up, Kev. Much ado about nothing, I guess. That jittering has always been there. We just didn't notice until someone pointed it out. Hahaha I like the idea of just closing the compass. it blocks part of the screen anyway. 👍

I don't know about the comment that the compass was jittery since day one. I got mine when it came out did all updates but not the latest one since I saw this compass issue come up. I'm on app version 1.12.8 and firmware 1.00.0300. Compas is steady as can be! I use dji assistant for updates and usually you can also roll back firmware on the aircraft and the rc. I would try DJI assistant and see if you can see the older firmware. On my Mavic 2 pro I can see every past firmware and can go back to that version. I think dji don't let you do this anymore with the min4 Not sure why but this would be a perfect example to go back to older firmware I saw many bad firmware come out and not get fixed right away. Worse part is that I saw dji fix issues but only changed the firmware file on the server and not tell anyone. So for example I did a firmware update with bugs then day later those bugs were fixed but again nobody was told. I only found out by refreshing the same firmware via DJI assistant. That installed the fixed firmware with same version 😱 you can't do firmware refresh via Wi-Fi and your rc. You can only refresh (reinstall) a firmware via DJI assistant on your pc. Anyone having issues do try that refresh via DJI assistant 2 for consumer drones. Easy download for your pc from dji page.

I hear that! lol Honestly if I could go back a few versions I would but unfortunately the RC2 won’t let that happen from what I’ve seen. We have our first Mini 2 and that fly app is still on the 1.4.8 and it’s worked perfectly ever since it was installed. lol. It looks quite a bit different than the new stuff too so it’s kind of nostalgic.

I think I saw NoobGreen I think that is his channel name I saw went over this earlier this week. I never had my setting as you did. So I guess this is why I did not see the compass going around in circles. Actually I have mine selected where you selected a top left-hand icon on the Compass as you did in your video . I’m definitely glad you got it figured out. Also the information about putting the battery in. I’m so glad that you actually said that because all the time I find myself either trying to put it in wrong. And the test you did showing the mini drone flying from inside the truck you are so right these mini’s have great signal! Great video !

lol that battery tip was kind of funny... That comment came on the aftermarket battery video we did a while back and the commenter seemed perturbed that I kept messing up putting the batteries in.. The problem is that on the aftermarket battery, the label was on the bottom.. lol Oh well. We can't always be right, eh?

Oh awesome! Welcome to the channel, buddy. I would say you’re the first one to say you’ve had this problem with the Mini 2se. From what I’ve learned so far, the RCN1 controller isn’t nearly as sensitive as the RC2 and I’ve noticed when I’ve used the iPhone on the RCN1 with the mini 2, it’s really smooth. That’s a head scratcher for sure why you’d have that problem with the mini 2se. lol. Did you notice it on your own or did someone point it out? I never even noticed until someone mentioned it and now I can’t unsee it. lol.

Absolutely! That bike mount has come in handy so far and I haven't even used it on the scooter yet... Here's the link on Amazon... Good luck!!! :) Oh, the only thing I found was the part that fits on the handlebars is pretty small so if your bike or scooter has a larger size handlebar, it won't fit... Idk what's going on, but my mini 3 is possessed. For the first time ever, it went from hovering to flying backward and crashing into a tree. I never had a single problem with my mini 2. Also, I realized that my N1 remote seems more stable than my RC. Weird things are happening.

Not trying to beat a dead horse... however, compasses don't do well in a metal box (i.e.; your truck). Have you tried flying from outside your truck? I have an m4p and have not experienced the compass shake or jitters.

That horse has decomposed beyond recognition by now and I think even the skeleton has disappeared. Hahaha. Just kidding, man but yea I have definitely flown outside the truck and had the same result with the compass on the RC2. Last weeks video or the one before that (they all run together now) I had installed the 1.13.5 update and tested it in the back yard and the compass was pretty jittery. We’ve had people comment saying they’ve had the shaky compass for months and a lot of others say they’ve not had the problem. Honestly it’s not really a big deal and it’s not interfered with any of our flights that I can tell. It’s just something else to ignore. Hahaha. Thanks for watching, buddy and for the comment. Hey there! I can say yes it works for our Mini 4 pro, as I used it just the other day on the 1.13.5 fly app. I haven’t had any problems but several have from what I’ve heard. Best of luck and let us like if you’ve had any problems. Not that we could help but I’m pretty nosey. Hahaha

lol that’s a great question, buddy. In the lower left corner of the fly app is where the compass will be. If you see the map, click on the lower right or maybe upper right corner of the map. I can’t remember off hand which one it is. Anyway, click on one of those corners and the compass should pop up in place of the map.

@@WeretheRoberts lol I am an absolute begginner with these complicated drones,so I have that app on my phone, but I thought the whole point of having this new controller just like you have ... is so woulnt have to use our phones So do I need to have the drone and phone and controller all connected at the same time , and I need my phone with me when Im miles from my home ?? LOL confused as heck .com ! ha ha ! Thanks ill investigate what you said and ee if i can make head and tail of it and hopefully get a video up soon one thats using Cellular data hopefully and not my out of range router !
