I would recommend this drone as the best beginner drone to have and is great for active people or the average traveler as its compact. The improved motors is a plus to have for windy places and a sturdier frame. Glad I upgraded and my videos seem better.

I had a Mavic pro, and didn't use it too much, just flying around and holidays. I sold it. it was pretty good and very strong drone. Now I'm waiting for my SE, and im very excited. I feel I will use it more because of its size and portability.

Dji dont need any markting, you guys do everything for free, the motors and the shell is from mini2 and if you do a wind test on se you will see that can resist as the mini 2

Wind resistance and price are the major attractions over the Mini 1. The added wind resistance can't be understated, while the price-point pressures high-end 'toy' drone manufacturers the likes of SJRC, MJX,JJRC, etc. Not to mention more serious budget camera-drones from Fimi and Hubsan. I know if I had $200 to waste on a toy-grade camera drone from SJRC, the Mini SE would be worth the wait to come-up with the extra cash. Add some slip-on Yagi antenna boosters and the flight experience becomes quite acceptable with DJI's enhanced WiFi. But I agree that the Mini 2 is worth the upgrade due to the Ocusync FPV range. 4K vs 2.7K is not so noticeable, but adds some shot-framing flexibility in post-production.

The original mini bag came with the fly more kit. The original mini was not great in even slightly windy conditions, the most common complaint. The wind resistance of the SE is the same as the Mini 2, seems to be upgraded ese and motors. The original mini was $349. So, a better battery and upgraded wind resistance for less money. A polished truly capable drone for fimi mini $.

Having the same body on both drones is easier for dji to do repairs as they have to only keep one body in stock. Also probably cheaper for them as they will produce more of the body at once.

it's basically a mini2 but with mini 1 chassis/ radio gear & the mini1 2.7K Camera . also the mini 1 / 2 & SE share the same GPS board. thats it from the mini 1 . the SE has the mini2 - usb-c motherboard & ESC ( mini1 has micro usb Motherboard ) . it also has the mini2 li-po battery & props & motors, plus the mini 2 solid arms (mini1 has foam insert arms , and if FLYMORE has the mini2 charge hub/power bank and the mini1 hard case . also the quick share LED button under the rear on the mini 2 is different . it's only a light on the SE so no QUICK SHARE on SE . so not just a resolution and radio difference . thats what i have noticed , I have the mini2 . The Mini2 is just fantastic! but the SE IS definitely the best value Drone on the market hands down .

From my experience the SE is way more stable in wind then my Mini 1 was. I'd get wind warrings or propellers overpowered warnings all the times in the Mini 1 with even slight wind and distance/height warnings. The SE I've had 0 warnings so far in windy flights and long distance flights. I'm 99% using it for stills and they are the same as Mini 1

Your right about this being a strange release for DJI. I believe it was meant for foreign markets where only less expensive drones sell well, but there was so much interest in it from US customers that it finally leaked out here. Good review, especially considering you had nothing new here to really show or comment on. It was refreshing to you so honest about this repackage drone.

I'm really glad I waited for the mini 2, when they had the 1 on sale. The occusync upgrade is more than worth it. Instead of a "toy" drone, it's an entry level drone. Sort of how there are entry level DSLRs.

@@jasonlara Yeah this guy sums it up perfectly. The SE is just the Mini 1 in a Mini 2 shell. I'm pretty glad I got the 2, because I'm very sure I could not have flown it to where I've flown it or at least not comfortably. I understand the price sensitivity though so do whatever fits your budget. For me the fly more price did hurt my wallet a little more than I wanted but I think it was well worth it in the end. Definitely get the fly more kit. 1 battery isn't going to be enough once you get the hang of it. If you can, I would wait. Rumors are the mini 3 should be released this year. So who knows, maybe there will be a Mini SE2, that has Mini 2 internals!

The mini se does have a case if you get the fly more combo, and you didn’t so that’s why there wasn’t in yours. Same with the mavic mini and mini 2, the fly more combo has a case and the non combo doesn’t.

I just watched your video. Do I have to get any special permit to fly the drone? How do you know where you can fly? Would I be better with getting a mini 2. I don't understand the confusion. Obviously production for the mini 1 has stopped so this is a way to offer a cheap option. Same basic hardware as the mini 2 with a cheaper camera. Not really meant to be an upgrade for someone with a mini 1.

DJI lost Lawsuit when sued by AUTEL and now DJI is not suppose to sell their consumer drones in the USA such as Phantom, Mavic, Inspire, Spark etc. This might have something to do with the release and not having it available on their site.

From what I've seen the arms are more rigid than the original mini, it has better wind resistance compared to the original Mini and the flight characteristics are more like the Mini 2 than the original Mini. The original Mini you cannot adjust the yaw sensitivity so it always overshoots your intended yaw unless you release the stick early. I don't have the SE but what I've been trying to find out is what adjustability do you have in the "advanced gimbal settings"? Also I would like to find out if there is anything at all that is better about the SE (with the exception of price) than the Mini 2? I really think the release of the SE in the US was for one reason, the same reason it was made. DJI does not like losing market share, they want the new buyers who may purchase a Fimi, Hubsan or any number of "budget" quads. You don't stay on top if you don't leave a trail of blood behind you.

Honesty it sounds like the company had extra internal materials, and they wanted to turn it over into cash. If they continue making more mini 1, people aren’t really going to buy , so you do what Apple does in a different way. Apple will provide old body, newish internals for their SE
